Round 2 Match Report
Coburg website

We started this game basically the same way we started our practice match against Frankston a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately the result was not the same.

Frankston had 3 goals on the board before we posted our first goal and  we trailed by 4-5 goals at every break going into the last quarter.

We started that last quarter with 3 quick goals and that got the boys fired up,but Frankston replied with a steadying goal.

Jake King and Relton Roberts were instrumental in getting us in front with about 5 minutes to go,but to Frankston’s credit, they never gave in and got back in front after a forced turnover with about 2 minutes to go and managed to hang on for the win.

While we outscored Frankston 12goals to 7 in the 2nd half, the damage was done early.

Major possession winners were: Sam Power  38, Justin Webberley 30, Ben Cousins 28, Robin Nahas 25, Justin Kahlefeldt 24.

Goal Kickers: King 5, Roberts 3, Nahas 2, Lawton 2, Polo , Webberley  ,Kahlefeldt 1

Best: King, Kahlefledt, Power, Rayson ,McGuane ,Foley

Coburg:              1.2          3.5          8.7           15.7.97

Frankston:          4.6          8.8          12.8        15.11.101

Reserves

Coburg:              6.3          13.8        21.10     27.14

Frankston:          0.1          1.1          4.7          6.10

The boys began the game superbly with 4 goals in the first 10 minutes and we went into the first break up by 38 points.

Another 7 goals were piled on in the 2nd quarter and 14goals in the 2nd half.

While we played against a weakened line up, we played and moved the ball quickly and consistently hit targets.

Major Possesion winners: Pope 40 , McMahon 29,  Cattapan 27, Contin 25, Houli 25

Best: Jordon, Pope, Cattapan, Hicks, O’Reilly

Next week:  April 24th Anzac Round V Box Hill at Highgate Craigieburn Reserves commence at 9am and Seniors at 12.30pm

Anyone who saw this game have any comments on Kahlefeldt?  Seems to be playing ok and he tried out for a rookie spot this year.  Is he worth looking at again at the end of this season?

Fair enough CUB.  I've never seen him play, just following his fortunes as he's from up here and came on in a hurry in the last year or so.  What do you think are his deficiencies?

Just shows how different eyes see diffeerent things.

In the Herald-Sun report they say McGuane was rarely sighted yet in the Coburg website report, presumablty from the coaches, he was named in the best players.

I tried to look out for him after your query another time.
I watched at ground level which I'm not used to. I like being up higher and watching players set up. From my vantage point he was serviceable, same as last week. Took a really nice contested mark in the 3rd quarter.
That's not much of a report but I don't think there was a lot to report. He was good in the practice match against Frankston a few weeks ago.

For '65, Rhett Jordon was awesome in the reserves. He was a good foil up forward for Griffiths and Westhoff. I doubt those 2 big forwards will be in the reserves much longer, if at all. Neither will Jordon if he plays like that consistently.

Both. He took a few strong marks and is fairly nippy for a solid bloke.

I think having Griffiths and Westhoff there helped him because the focus of the backmen was on them. I hope those 2 get to be as good as I think they're going to be. I have a feeling they'll both be in the Richmond side soon. Probably Griffiths first because he is more solid and a strong contested mark.

Not taking anything away from Jordon, he was very good. It will be interesting to see how he goes without 2 big dominant forwards there with him.

Cheers FF.  Sounds like he's not doing his chances any harm.  If he finishes the season the way he has started then you would think he is a chance for a rookie spot at least.
