Yep it's very good news if PPs are still available but questions need to be asked of Craig Cameron and the match committee last year as to why they stupidly allowed us to win more than 4 games last year. They should have demanded Rawlings to do what was in the list's long-term interests rather than allow Jade to chase wins in an attempt to win the full-time coaching job. One lousy win in a joke of a game and a meaningless draw has cost us pick 6 this year and a pick around 18-20 last year. Just dumb, dumb and dumb. Recruiting Thomson and Hislop was another brilliant waste of picks  ::).

we cant do half jobs anymore. If we are to do it properly then everyone should be on notice to perform and quite frankly CC is part of an era we dont want at this club anymore. He was there with Miller,  and has been F/T for a few years and has brought garbage into this club.

He clearly is not up to the task at hand and i Hope Dimma sees this and dumps him come seasons end.

Yep Cameron has really struggled. Need a Blame, Geoff Walsh type of character. Someone who commands respect when he talks.

Cameron replaced Miller as head of the footy dept. So he wasn't at the club at the same time as Miller. He was at Melbourne with their list in a total mess. Francis Jackson was the one there working under Miller. Cameron was there though for Wallace's last 9 months or so and the whole of Rawlings' caretaker period. In fact Cameron was in the coaches' box with Jade and was standing next to him with stern faces as Jordie had that shot for goal  :P.

stand corrected.  :thumbsup

Stern faces in the coaches box don't get you priority picks, strategic planning does. Has been at clubs when their list is in decay and then suffering with real teething problems. Says alot. I believe the club also sought him out. Big mistake in my opinion. WIth the money available to the club in terms of player wages we need to get a real mover and shaker to replace Cameron soon.

We need a Natanui,a Johnathon Brown and man sized backline.
Can we get those in two years?
NicNat is a stuff and a one of a kind. Another Kreuzer type could be around though in the next 2 years (I haven't seen much of the U16 and U18 comps to know who's potentially available) although GC and GWS have the first 3 picks and will each grab the best tall.

With picks 4, 4 and 6 in the next two years and free agency coming in there's no reason why we can't add 4 A-graders to our list if we pick right. Then it's up to our recruiters with our 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks in upcoming drafts to add the quality depth that will take us the ladder.

Cameron was bought to Richmond by Miller as the LIST MANAGER, apparently on a five year contract.
IIRC Miller left just after he started and he was promoted to FOOTY MANAGER because he was last man standing and kept List Manager job as well.

Cameron is in the second year of his five year term, he has not been replaced as List Manager as promised so has both jobs like Miller had, he is Hardwicks boss and reports to Gale and the board.

Note that Hartley (ex-Recruitment Manager at Port for last five years) is the List Analyst and opposition Scout hired by Hardwick as a member of his coaching staff.

What makes people think that free agency will make much of a difference?

I can see us losing some of our better players who are sick of losing and want to have some succes before they retire.

You're right RT. I stand corrected  :). Cameron arrive in Jan 2008. I mucked it up as I knew Cameron wasn't at Richmond for the 2007 draft/trade period. So although he initially worked under Miller, Miller was given the stuff and Cameron promoted to head of the footy dept by the time he was first involved with our recruiting decisions in October-December. This must then be Cameron's 3rd year?

That's a possibility but given the youthful age of our list very few of our players will satisfy the criteria to be free agents by 2012. You would also hope we'll be on the other side of our bottoming out by then that we'll be seen as a up and coming side.

Free agency could help us given (a) we have Benny Gale who pushed for it as head of the AFLPA and so should know every nitty detail and (b) with such a young list we have had apparently forward-load a number of contracts to meet the 92.5% of the salary cap minimum limit. Take away Jordie's 300k per year  :P as well to free up more cap space and by 2012 we should have cash available to chase a free agent.

and add simmonds, tuck et al ... and then we will free up lots of money to have an impact during free agency. indeed with our salary cap being how it is, we should be in prime position to chase some players.

tony would anyone want to come to our club at the moment given where we are?

Answer is - they don't have any choice who drafts them.

But in free agency they would and I think in our current state, most quality players would come with a hefty price tag to convince them to come our way

In two years time we really wouldn't want to be 'buying' too many 25+ year olds in any event. When the core of our list reaches the 23+ age bracket that would be the time we would want to go on a shopping spree and is also when the list would begin to look more attractive. The only player type we appear to urgently need to gain is a ruckman who usually last a little longer than other players regardless.

I think free trade we be of considerable worth to us in the future given that very few of our players will be eligible or wanted to be taken by other clubs and we can go out and fill the needs in our team when our list finally starts to form.

Its True, funny I was only discussing this subject with my brother last
week.

The good news is that the stronger sides will get picks that are even further discounted than ours!
