Positives from today's game?

Fire away....

Plenty of encouraging signs from a team perspective today. 75% kicking efficiency being one of them.

Game Plan looked really strong.

Jack worked up teh ground instead of staying close to the sticks and foxusing on scoring. Was superb

Gourdis battle with Kossi was good. Kossi won out but thought he played well for his standards. Gourdis sharked a few balls which is promising. Had a few poor kicks though.

Lids was great early and pushing All Aus.

Taylor worked hard all day IMO.

Post looked to be working harder than normal.

Nahas had a dig, maybe not enough but tried.

King was really good. Played a Milne type game.

Cotchin was great, when he's not tagged he can be damaging. Will learn alot of Cousins in breaking tags.

O'Rielly looked really settled compared to last week was kicking long and took the game on.

(1) Jake King was terrific today.
(2) Looks like Jack Riewoldt will now go on to win the Coleman.
(3) Cotchin makes such a difference to our team.

I think generally speaking it was a very positive game all around. You have one very young list with pretty much nothing to play for against a top four side preparing to play finals. In the end it was a case of bigger bodies and a little more experience that got them home. Another couple of years of developement and based on the players to return next season i believe the future can only be a bright. Of course this doesnt take into account any players we pick up in the draft, whilst it may be a bit thin a couple of wise picks could make all the difference.

we lost only by 3 goals in a game that once again had double standards in umpiring

we played well, only had one ruck and reallly played better than the saints just they had moments of luck

milne didnt kill us , is that a first?

gourdis looks good, dont worry about kosis goals 2/3 of them we not gourdis' faultahd he could do nothing about it

cotchin played like a man possessed up until he fatigued, if he stays injury free next yr, the  brownlow is hews, mark that down!

For me the positives were Brett. Brett's kicking was outstanding. He played a great game. Troy Taylor played a good game. Troy is a good mark. Post was good in first quarter. Trent was fantastic. His ability to get the hard ball was brilliant. Jack played a very good game. He was totally unselfish. King played one of the best games I have seen him play for the club. O'Reilly is a find. Liked his game. Thursfield played okay. Liked the syle of football played.

Disappointments for me were Edwards and Connors. Connors kicking was very poor. Edwards had opportunities to break the lines on several occasions but his decision making on those occasions was found wanting

Pretty much agree with all of this. Troy needs to learn he cant go one handed at this level but was good apart from those couple times. I thought Connors kicking cost us a few times and Edwards has dropped of since his early year form.  Best game from Trent for long time. Gourdis will be good I think. Rance, Post and a few other of the whipping boys played better too. Graham won the ruck duel for me too after being down for a couple of weeks. I realy think he has a long future as our number one ruck, he seems to have got to the point where he believes he can play the role at this level and to me thats the secrect to being a AFL ruckman.

Lots of positives, I relay enjoyed watching them play and for a couple of years I havent been able to say that in most games.

Positives:
Cotchin - star

Lids: fantastic game. Actually when Lids is playing well we are playing well

Jack - leading instead of trying to always take the "speccy"

Taylor - although needs to work on the defensive side to his game because at times yesterday it was non existent

Jake King - just never gives up

Negatives: not many but Connors never fails to disappoint me  :banghead :rollin

Post: needs to work harder than just for the odd quarter

Nahas: I think he's been watching far to many tapes of Dan Connors - he did too many selfish things yesterday... :banghead

What do mean by selfish things WP? Are you referring to players taking the game on or something else?

Got it in one al.

I appreciate that when someone takes an the game and it comes off it's great

However, the question is when should you do it

BUT when you decide to take someone on and you have no chance at winning that contest and you have a team mate in a better position to receive a handball or a kick that going to get your team into an attacking posistion then it is IMHO totally unacceptable because it isn't team orientated it is simply bloody SELFISH
