Willie,

Been told that that the sponsor stuff has all been finalised, but the sponsors themselves want it announced in the new Year. Also brace yourselves for a huge announcement on Wednesday. Great news is gunna starting filtering through to the masses thick and fast.

I noticed Lids and the boys driving around in a V8 Holden with Greg Murphy. A hint?

Yeah I got that feeling the sponsorsip is over the line and when I asked someone how it was going and got told "good, it's good" and then got a "wink" - i thought yep it's close

But not wanting to "moz" anything I reckon it's better to think it's close not done  :rollin

God I hope not I've just got a new Mitsubishi  ;D

Depending on how much money we get Holden would be considered a super sponsor for us. An A grade business name in Australia. Hopefully whoever sponsors the club has paid a proper price this time around and not got an el cheapo sponsorship again.

El cheapo in terms of monetary value compared to what other clubs are getting.  :thumbsup
Everybody knows that our last deals were done on very favorable terms for the sponsors because of the state of the economy at the time.

Not true, we were getting over a million from each deal which isn't too bad. Certainly the market rate anyway.

How did that compare to what Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton were and are getting?

not sure whether those comments are supported with fact or you've simply made them up as a quick glimpse of the finacial accounts demonstrates an increase in sponsorship revenue since signing with the departing sponsors but hey don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. please let normal transmiossion resume :shh

The key question is how did these deals compare with the deals that Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton have with their major sponsors.

Just because it may not be up there with the Top 3-4 deals in the competition doesn't make the deal "El cheapo"
The recent deals for Collingwood and Essendon are more recent than our deals and Visy is a bit biased in their process aren't they?
Collingwood & Essendon also don't have the AFL coming in and not allowing our sponsorships or making them go sponsor GWS instead

DOnt' think that's true Infamy - if the media reports were correct the 2 combined were worth $1.8-1.9 mil

Which I have said numberous times was more than what the Dogs get from Mission (1.5) and more than the Demons get with their co majors

The key question is how did these deals compare with the deals that Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton have with their major sponsors.

Flags - firstly you cannot compare our deal or anyone elses with the Pies. Because their deals are massive - certainly what we should aspire to but not realistic when you look at where we are at as a club. Actually the only club I would use to compare to the Pies is the Hawks and that's because of their deal with the Tassie Govt.

End of the day you have to llok at where we sit off-field and who we share the market with.

Teams at the lower end of the ladder get less sponsor $$$ that's the way it works. So the better comparison IMO should always be against teams in a similar position ladder wise to us. I know people don't want to look at things that way but until we start getting consistent on field results that is where we sit. Fortunantely, our 2nd half of season 2010 has made us more attractive and I think our next majors will reflect that

But back to the original question again I don't think the comparisons are realistic. Bombers signed with Samsung (media say its worth $2.5-$3mil p.a)  when they were still considered a regular finals side - their test comes when it comes to renewing that deal in light of where they are now.

Blues got a really good deal with Mars - right place at the right time in the sense coming off a top 8 finish in 2009. Not sure of the numbers but media hinted they are worth a million each

Probs cause we have been down so long and we don't have sponsors queueing at the door. Negotiating the best deal in the circumstances! Frustrating I know but whaddya do
