Eddie wants the voting to be carried out by the coaches and players and not the umpires........

At least you still got 24 votes Dane. Geoff Raines got none  :P when he was favourite in 1980.

LOL

DC had 35 possies that day so they obviously looked at the stats.

Yep apart from not having a clue they are seduced by stats, having said that it didn't help poor Dane  :lol

And they are seduced by the 720 degree man Judd

Judd winning shows they haven't a clue

Luckiest bloke in the comp - breaks a blokes nose, not only doesn't get suspended let alone reported and now wins a Brownlow on what was an average Judd year... please give me a break  :chuck :chuck

Agree with Jack actually I reckon Pendelbury is/was the Pies best this season. Friday night's first half moved that young man into elite status IMHO

Yes, but WP you've forgotten that the completely impartial match review panel ruled that despite Pavlich requiring four staples to stem the blood flow, Judd's hit on him wasn't considered forceful enough impact to warrant a report. ???
Unlike say that "dirty mongrel" Trent Cotchin who got a "justifiable" four weeks for bracing himself when he arrived a split-second too late.

I think you're drawing a low bow here smoke, Judd is fairer than most in the competition, he's had 2-3 misdemeanors of suspendable offences in his whole career.

To answer the question I think its easier to respect a guy like Judd who carries himself the way he does quietly getting the job done on the footy field over Brent Harvey who plays for free kicks and celebrates a goal like Ronaldo. With all due respect to Brent Harvey but its an example.

I can't see it that way at all Pope.  The umpires are meant to be awarding votes to the 3 best players on the ground in any given game of football.  Accounting for whether a player celebrates a goal like Ronaldo or shows no emotion at all is not in their charter and should not come into it.  If it does then its a terrible indictment on the umpires and their ethics, just like they should still consider a player for votes even when he is ineligible.  I would counter that it should be infinitely harder to respect a bloke who has been rubbed out for an eye gouge and had no penalty to pay Brownlow-wise and told lies to the MRP when questioned about it, than a player who celebrates a goal a bit more than some others (not that Harvey stands out to me at all in that area but that's another matter).  And let's not forget that Judd has been up for eye gouging twice - only to have Campbell Brown lie to the MRP for him and then later get fined $15k when he admitted the lie.  You talk about quietly getting the job done and yet I have never heard Harvey complain once about being tagged or scragged, even though he cops a tag each week just like Judd - can't say the same about Judd who was quite happy to talk to the press when he felt he was being unfairly treated.

Yes, this uplifting moral leader of our code has been caught eye gouging twice and lied about it, yet you think he is more deserving of the respect of the umpires than a player who has been reported once in his 300 game career and had that report thrown out by the MRP with no case to answer as it was "not a tripping action"?  Thats the whole issue I have with Judd in general - he gets held up by all and sundry as a doyen of humility, honesty and fair play yet he did nothing to help his team mates at West Coast when they were doing the wrong thing with drugs, did nothing at Carlton (as captain) when 3 of his players ran amok at a pre-season function, lied to the public and the MRP, and allowed another player to take the fall for lying on his behalf.  Thats the whole issue I have with Judd - he is not the 'saint' that he is portrayed to be and I don't think he deserves the preferential treatment he receives from the AFL, media and public.  He is all about Chris Judd.

And as for being the best player in the competition this year?  Didn't make top 5 in the MVP, was running a very distant 5th in the Coaches Award (with 3 rounds to go), finished outside the top 3 in the Herald Sun Player of the Year Award and scraped into the All Australian side on the bench.  Nope, he was not this years best player and did not deserve his Brownlow on a number of levels.  The value of the Medal was cheapened last night.

Sums it up perfectly. Can't believe the look on the toads face! 'Priceless' - I'm not much for the golden child and goes to show how much the umps love him, but it was all worth it. Awesome stuff  :clapping

nb: Sorry MT I pinched your "Priceless" should of read before I posted. Will keep it in anyway - Thread of the year so far, hopefully a better one to come. :cheers

Geoff Raines never got a vote in the Brownlow in 1980, the best player at the time arguably in the VFL.
Swan can probably understand how frustrated Ablett was until he eventually won his!
Eddie can sit on this  :thumbsup

What do you think was going through his fat head?

I think it may have been 'What the eff am I going to do with 100,000 Dane Swan Brownlow 2010 DVDs and 2000 Limited Edition Dane Swan 2010 Brownlow Medallist signed memorabilia pieces'  :lol

Judd another 3 votes and Swan, Ablett nil. leads by 5 with just 3 rounds to go

Judd going to hard to toss now.

Should have been suspended after he made Pavlich bleed. I smell a conspiracy.   :chuck

The AFL Golden Child prevails. :chuck

Was not BOG against us in round 20.

It's the umpires award TB.

Barlow Round 1 33 possessions and 2 goals in debut = 0 votes.

Its opinion based. Umpires opinion award. Happier to see someone like Judd win a Brownlow then a Cooney or Goodes.

He's the best player in the comp.

you are wrong Pope. He is the best player at Carlton, not the comp. No where near. Outside the top 5 for me.

The fact that money hungry idiot he won it was a disgrace. The only comfort i get is the look on Eddie's face. That aside those losers who flap their arms around are dumb as dog poo and should not be awarding Brownlow Votes when you have Barlow not getting awardded none for his effort.
That priveledge should go to respected people like Barrassi, Matthews  etc etc who have no bias whatsoever.

We have changed the game in so many areas, some better some not but this needs to be overhauled in a massive way.

How This greedy prick and Goodes, although i like him) won 2 Brownlows is an absolute joke.

this award means nothing if results like last night keep happening

Pathetic
