Bring back State of Origin and play it in October instead.

I would show some support for that but I cannot stand the 'international' garbage.

Jack rules!

Richmond’s star spearhead, Jack Riewoldt, is being touted as a major key to the outcome of the upcoming International Rules series between Australia and Ireland.

Riewoldt, who is representing Australia for the first time in the hybrid game, caught the eye of London’s ‘Daily Mail’ sports writer, Joe Callaghan, in his preview of the two-Test series, which starts in Ireland this weekend (October 23).

Under the heading:  “Wizards of Oz:  Stars to watch in this series”, Callaghan described ‘Jumping Jack’ as “the potential matchwinner”.

“Just 21 and truly lethal.  The younger cousin of St Kilda’s Nick Riewoldt, he easily claimed the Coleman Medal for 2010 with an astonishing 78 goals in 22 games.  At 6ft 4in, he demands attention from the Irish defence,” he wrote.

Riewoldt’s soccer background should hold him in good stead for the challenge of the International Rules series.  He played soccer as a youngster, and was pretty good at it, too, winning a best and fairest award in an under-10s competition back in Tasmania - the only sporting best and fairest he’d claimed up until this year’s Jack Dyer Medal success with the Tigers.

Included among his 78 goals in the 2010 season were some ‘soccer specials’, where he used his ability to read the play, and expertise at ground level, to create something out of nothing.

Riewoldt has been honing his goalkicking skills with the round ball at Australia’s training sessions, in preparation for the first Test against Ireland, paying particular attention to net conversions, which are worth six points, compared to three-pointers for shots that go over the cross-bar.

It was great to watch Flea star in State of Origin in the 80s but it's now dead and buried. There's no passion for it anymore since we have a National competition and professional players will never take it seriously as they did in the 80s. Also which states play. It's okay for NRL as they have only two states to worry about and rewards the best with a spot in the Australian side. If SOO is just Vic vs the rest a la 2008 then the other main states SA and WA will resent it as Vic-centric; if it's Vic vs SA vs WA then many players miss out like our Jack unless you include a "Allies" side but there's no passion or traditional with a composition side; add in the smaller states in some sort of Carnival and they'll get flogged and you'll need a month which will be opposed by the AFLPA. SOO is dead! The only alternative option to IR is to copy another Americanism and go with a end of season All-Star game but there's no traditional for that either. The IR series at least makes money with Croke Park packed with 70k Irish hoping for a bit of biff and then complaining about it the next day if the Irish come off second-best :D.

Jack scored 16 points including a "under" in last night's warm up game. He also got through unscathed unlike a couple of other Aussies.

lol

Jack has put a little more up on his diary.

Even though we've played against each other, we've bonded well to form a good team. Even me and Sam (Gilbert)– I sat on his head in round 11 and it nearly won me a car.  :lol

Jack did okay although he only had 12 possies. Played more in the midfield and even "rucked". The main thing is he got through injury free.

Good to see a Tiger jumper in the crowd.
