Who's more important to our club in 2011?
« on: February 17, 2011, 08:52:07 PM »
So who do you value most at our club this year?

Who will make the biggest difference?

Who could we not afford to lose?

Jack,

He is our only forward.

If voting for another, Benny Gale came in a close 2nd

Nathan Foley.

If he stays fit will be a mature first round recruit for us. Will add another dimension of hardness along with Cotchin and Martin.

Foley

Having him fit and firing will make a massive difference to our midfield as it will take attention away from Cotch & Martin or vice versa.
He is a genuine A grade midfielder when 100% fit, so his addition will make our forwards lives much easier as our midfield should be working better and as such delivering into the forward line better

I say Jack based on my understanding of him playing up the ground more this year.
If Jack can provide an avenue to goal, provided we can uncover a spread of goalkickers and Jack can drift in and out and kick a few himself. Will go a long way to improving us as a team.

You can seriously make a case for all of them, yes including Graham! and that's a good thing as it shows we are developing a "TEAM"

Asking is one thing...answering is another.

I actually find the question difficult. Riewoldt made the biggest difference on the scoreboard and as our only forward (Coleman medalist to boot) he is incredibly important to our onfield success. A fit Cotchin will make a huge impact as will Martin if he build on his first year. Astbury holding down the backline would fill a huge hole in our team as would Gus finally stepping up (or any ruck for that matter!).

Lids and Newman are consistent performers for us and without their leadership and talent we would be stuffed!

But my choice came down to three - Benny Gale, because he is transforming the clubs fortunes which will eventually bring us onfield success. Hardwick for similar reasons because he is changing the playing culture and finally developing the young players but my choice ended up being a player - Nathan Foley. A fit Foley would change the dynamics of our midfield completely - with Cotchin and Martin now commanding opposition attention, Foley could get the freedom to explode this year.

I'm :pray that all of our good performers maintain or exceed their levels this year (Riewoldt, Martin, Cotchin etc) so if Foley can bring his 'A' game this year it will make the biggest difference to our success rate.....in my humble opinion of course  :whistle

Hardwick - year 2 is always a tough one at tigerland for coaches  ;D but I reckon Dimma is the right bloke at the right time for our Club

I will go with Nathan Foley....I think he is just a natural footballer.

He played 2 games last year, after missing so much football (without a pre season) and did not miss a beat.Infact he looked magnificent.

Hopefully his injury woes are behind him...Anyone else drooling at having Foley,Lids Cotch,Martin and Conca all running around in rd 1.

Big Benny got my vote but it could be many, I seriously swithced back and foward several times before I clicked on Mr Gale.

This is certainly a big year for the Club on and off the field so everybody is Important, even US

Interesting all the elements in play. The factors I keep switching between were onfield v off-field and consistent performers v potential performers. In many ways what Dimma and Benny Gale is doing for the club as a whole is more important for not only this year but for Richmond in the future and could be argued to effect everyone rather than just the scoreboard. Also the reemergence of a player such as Foley will have a huge impact on lifting our overall performance but only if our other strong performers from last year continue to play to the same standard.

If Jack, Lids, Newman, Cotch, Martin etc drop away then a fit Foley would only cover that loss.

I think I'm starting to confuse myself now  ???

I'll go with Grigg just ahead of Foley.
Recruited primarily as a chop out to enable Cotchin & Martin to play more outside.
If it works it's going to make those two players infinately more damaging.
