Newy was great last night. People knock him because he's not captain who wins games off his own boot but his leadership stood out last night and the whole side is united and playing as one with great spirit and now a will to win even under enormous game pressure and growing expectations.

facts are he is the general out there and just about an on field coach.   he is a leader , may not be the best player but he is a leader

great game by the captain last night, seemed to be in the right place at times, but still gives his opponant too much freedom.

Thought he made one glaring error of judgment last night.  Early in the last quarter the ball came to Morris on the HBF who went sideways to Newman on the other flank.  Newman was about 20mts clear and had a golden opportunity to run straight through the centre before delivering a trademark 60mt kick down Riewoldt's throat (who would have been in a one on one).  Instead, he stopped, waited and invited all the Saint's momentum and pressure back into their forward 50 before delivering the ball back to where it came from.  The resultant pressure caused a turnover and goal and it was the start of a change of momentum at a critical part of the game.  His actions were almost like telling his teammates I'm not sure, I'm not confident and I'm panicked and that sort of stuff from the captain can very quickly become contagious.  Sent my voice into overdrive when I saw it.

Yep great game, but most players did go pretty well!

I thought he stood up at a few key points during the game last night.  He will never get the votes but he is a solid calm presence generally.  Thought the Saints captain was more of a whingeing rabble setting a bad example with poor on field displays than ours to be honest smokey.
