He said Cloke is signed sealed delivered to the Tiges, Cotchin will be captain next year, and he fully endorses Terry Wallace for the Port job

Love it pickle!!  :bow

Did anyone watch before the game?? what was said? cheers  :thumbsup

Not a whole lot. Can't remember much but he didn't seem as confident about making finals (do you blame him) as Nahas makes out. Said how the narrow loses cant be just luck since it happened to many times and its something they gotta work on. Rekon theyve improved this year and hope to keep the trend going. All i can remember

Thanks mate  :thumbsup

lets hope he can keep the trend moving North as he watches on from Coburg with Phil Cleary

See you Chris, thanks for the good times

hmm  :-\

Newman's form no concern for Tigers
Dejan Kalinic
Sportal

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has leapt to the defence of Chris Newman, saying he is unconcerned by his captain's low possession count.

Newman has struggled to find the ball in the past fortnight, unable to have a major impact against Carlton (nine disposals) and Brisbane (eight).

But Hardwick said the number of disposals Newman gathered was not an area of focus, preferring to hail the 30-year-old's leadership.

"He's been heavily tagged over the last month. His numbers have come down but the fact is his on-field leadership has been outstanding and something that you can't measure from a statistical point of view," Hardwick said on Friday.

"I've been very happy with the way he's gone about his footy. His leadership on and off the ground has been great and he's just getting the job done for us.

"The time will come when his possession count rises again but that's not something we're overly concerned about."

No doubt the opposition clubs are focussing on shutting down our half-back attackers but I think age is also starting to catch up on Newy (if he's not carrying an injury we don't know about). He's 30 now remember. It looks like he may have lost 5m off his long kicks when long kicking was a strength of his. It might be time to move him out of defence and up forward as a defensive half-forward. More experience in there to organise and structure us up better might help stop the ball rebounding out of our forward line too easily costing us soft goals on the rebound. Newy's also a pretty good kick for goal normally.

Newman a shining example

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has urged his players to follow the selfless example set by Chris Newman, as they strive to take the next significant step in their football journey at Tigerland.

“He has captained this Club with courage, commitment and an unrelenting desire to make things better,” Hardwick said.

“While he won’t have the (c) next to his name next year, he will remain an outstanding leader as part of this playing group until his career is finished.

“His decision to step down as captain, to me, says everything about his leadership.  He is absolutely selfless.  It has never been about Chris Newman, it has always been about what is best for the team.

Can't wait for a few of those captain goals to happen.

You know the 55-60m kicks that just about go through the middle all the time.

Go Newy.

What position would you like to see Newman play in the twilight of his AFL life?

Personally I would like to see the evolution of the back line without newman.

In a perfect world Newman could take over from Jackson as the defensive mid. Newly as a full time forward is a prospect of interest.

Newman leaves a lasting legacy

"He has captained this Club with courage, commitment and an unrelenting desire to make things better."
    Damien Hardwick

Chris Newman won’t be remembered as being the most high-profile Richmond captain, but he will leave a legacy just as significant as those who have gone before him.

Newman led his teammates out as skipper for the last time, in Round 23 of the 2012 season, after four years at the helm.

He will continue on as a player with the Tigers, while Trent Cotchin takes the reigns as captain, chosen from an impressive group of candidates.

Bottom line is, he was never comfortable as the captain.

I don't feel he showed any great leadership qualities off the field, when Walace was approached by the players before he was terminated.

Seemed more like he was the only guy that politically fit the position.

His game deteriorated with the ensuing captaincy.
Perhaps this is what hardwick means by follow his(Newmans) "selflessness"

It would nice to se him finish his career as a better player over the 2013 season'

The year he made the AA squad whilst captain was the best year of his career

Age got him not the burden of captaincy
