The year he made the AA squad whilst captain was the best year of his career

Age got him not the burden of captaincy
Ditto, caught up with him badly in 2012. Losing penetration in that kick as well which is his biggest asset.

Should not play in the backline.

Grimes / Rance / Chaplin / Griffiths

Deledio / Morris / Bachelor / Dea / Helbig / Mcintosh / Vlastuin / Conca / Ellis / Houli

The defensive unit of six or seven should be allowed to develop together

Age, u say?

I beg to differ.

Swans game. When he cracked it and actually put in a Captains game.
Wasn't too old that day...... or when he can be bothered PUSHING HIMSELF LIKE LEADERS DO.

Definitely the captaincy incapacitated his worth as a player.
Probably blamed himself for the team being so damn bad too.

I'm happy it we can put it down to the last lot of unprofessional alternative choices for a long time.

Like I've said.
Give us a great 2013 Chris -  only then can we judge your captaincy as favorable.

New role for Newman

Rock-solid Richmond defender Chris Newman is being reinvented as a midfielder in the twilight of his league career.

Newman, who resigned the Tigers’ captaincy at the end of last season, after four years in the role, has spent this pre-season preparing for a permanent place in the midfield throughout season 2013.

Richmond midfield coach Danny Daly believes the move will provide the 30-year-old veteran of 214 league games with a new lease of football life.

IMO would be more than capable to fill a role on the outside. Is a decent kick, plenty experience reading play, and could win more of his footy than Grigg. Maybe rotating with blokes like Grigg would make less of a noticeable difference when they come off for a spell.

To be honest unless Newman can re invent himself in a new position his days in the yellow and black are numbered. I don't think he has the leg speed to pay off half back anymore and his kicking was certainly down last year from years gone by.
An inside mid role my be his gig, has a good size body and he's not shy to get in and under. It will be a very interesting year for our captain of old.......
