Weights Coach
« on: April 16, 2011, 02:45:37 PM »
Is there anyone here who can tell me who our weights coach or strength and conditioning bloke is?

He needs to have a look at his development of our players. I personally dont think he has a clue.

I think its disgraceful how Dawes is what 20kgs heavier than Thursfield yet been in the system a few years less. How did he have a chance seriously?

Eagles players like Darling make some of our players look like little girls.

Im not talking about the 1st year players either more the ones who have been around for a while like Edwards and Thursfield. Both were owned last night in a massive way. Edwards by everyone who came within a metre and Thursfield by Dawes

How long do we have to wait before Grimes, Astbury, Griffiths and co put on some size 3, 4 or 6 years.

Put both of those boys at the Eagles and they would look like Darling and co so whats the issue with our club

Elite Performance Manager: Matt Hornsby (was there when Wallace was Coach)

Rehabilitation & conditioning Coach: Terry Condon (3rd or 4th year I thik)

Strength Coach: Adam Douglas (2nd year)

Sports Science Assistant: Brendan Fahrner

Boxing Coach: John Vickery (IMO shouldn't be there has a conflict with his son being on the list)

One area of the club that hardly had any major change in personnel post-Wallace era. The club seems to be counting on the new facilities to do the trick as far as improving our fitness, strength and size. Last night showed we are still way off in those areas. Many of our boys were running on the spot in the last qtr as they were totally stuffed and out of juice.

Would have to agree on this, otherclubs seem to either recruit massive kids and we recruit small frame players. Or, their smaller framed kids develop into man mountains and ours stay the same.

Has been happening for years!!!!!! Not sure whats going on there.

Vickery conflict of interest goodbye. Probably one of the reasons Tyrone was recruited in the first place.

Hornsby how he survived the Wallace era is a joke really. Players like Thursfield and Edwards are the same tooth picks that arrived at our club years ago. He should be embarrassed when he sees little Blair push our players to the ground.

I would like to see him go seasons end before he ruins the physical development of Astbury, Grimes and Batchelor.

Jack Darling at pick 27 what an absolute steal and what a unit.

What do they feed those blokes in the West seriously and why cant we work our poo out. Glass, Darling, Big Nat all large units.

hey knob, vickery is developing nicely, esp for a guy of his size,

ffs u dont build top teams overnite

and with the conditioning of players, i have been anti honsby for yrs but must admit, we can see major improvements in size over th epast 18 months, one more preseason and we will have some monsters

lids is building good size as in dan connors, not easy to bench 150 kg as easy as he did
even titch is showing improvement

jackson is tough as is haka boy and cotch

we are starting to build, and bachelor looks like a boy who will build up big and fast and does conca

im going to reserve my judgement for another pre season

Wasn't this year or last year the first time we actually had a proper weights coach?

Pretty ridiculous to think that a boxing coach would have any influence over the recruitment department and match commitee too
Either way, Vickery is coming along just fine, has kicked a goal in every game this year, taking contested marks and still very agile. He's so far ahead of schedule its not funny

Dont know what game you went too last night, thought he was hopeless. i didnt see him take a contested mark, and will continually spoilled by an opponent 6 inches smaller

I think you'll find that this pre season had the biggest increase in weight and size over players under 23 years of age.

Guys like Cotchin, Martin, Nason, Nahas, Vickery even Edwards have put bulk on since last year.

Something that has never happened in the past 10 years.
