30 June 2011 11:46AM ESTLEADING AFL player manager Colin Young has angrily hit out at claims that Richmond has pulled out of a race to sign Brisbane Lions big man Mitchell Clark.
Young revealed that the Tigers have not been in the race to sign the versatile big man and that he has never spoken with Richmond officials about Clark.
The 23-year-old ruckman-forward is about to launch official contract negotiations with Brisbane, despite Clark consistently being linked with a possible move to new AFL club Greater Western Sydney.
Young vehemently refuted reports from Melbourne on Thursday that Clark was out of Richmond’s reach because of a $500,000 to $600,000 price tag.
Tigers football manager Craig Cameron was quoted as saying Clark “may be too expensive for us.”
Young declared he has not spoken to Cameron about Clark moving to the Tigers.
He said preliminary discussions on a new Clark deal with Brisbane have been held with Lions list manager Robbie Kerr.
“I have never spoken to Craig Cameron regarding Mitchell Clark,” Young bluntly told sportsnewsfirst.com.au.
“The story from Melbourne is a beat-up.
“I’ve actually started talks with Brisbane on Mitchell Clark.
“I expect that if things progress well with Brisbane and their list manager Robbie Kerr as well as these discussions have started, that we could have a resolution to Mitchell’s negotiation in three to four weeks.”
Young is expected to hold further discussions with Lions officials as early as next week.
