speaking to mates employed at opposition clubs, overall we havent improved one bit..
If we have improved in a certain facet of the game, we have lost ground in other areas.
Opposition clubs say we are far too predictable, dont change it up enough and once beaten we throw the towel in completely.
You have to all admit, it certainly looks that way.
Hardwick said pre season he wanted the group to stick to structures etc and to be predictable.
Its seems we are way too predictable we are easy pickings for the opposition clubs

Of course we've improved. Not much as a team yet, but individuals have shown great signs this year. We caught teams by surprise all of a sudden last year, but this year teams have been ready for us. We'll have another good cleanout and other players will show great signs next year while the rest of our list will improve

Good posting as usual claw.

Just to ad.
Much to the chagrin of some I think that they will keep McGuane as a depth player next season (unless we recruit a mature defender) and Thursfield & Gourdis will be the ones to move on.

Well said. I quite like Mcguane. I'd like to see a back 6 of:

fb: batchelor rance newman
hb: grimes post deledio

Think this can become a really good defence with good height, skill, composure and size. Add Astbury or Mcguane rotating off the bench

I agree with both of you here. I like that backline also. Will be interesting to see if Astbury and McGuane can force their way into the backline. When I look at this it shows me we really do have a great deal of potential depth with our talls. Our backline is certainly not as bad as many have believed or made out earlier in year.

To state the obvious, it is our ruck department that we have the greatest need so perhaps looking at players such as Ports Trengove could be a mistake  ??? :-\

Strangely enough, it appears the one area we felt was our strength appears to be lacking the most in quality and depth - our midfield and smalls.  :o

If we can add something like Z. Clarke, H. McIntosh and a midfielder(top 10 pick), our midfield should be a real strength on the back of Foley, Martin, Cotchin, and Conca completing only their 2nd preseason in recent years. We'll need to draft a small forward this year too

Wouldnt even think another midfielder or small forward until our Backline has depth, this will need to be a focus as well as the Ruck! Trengove would suit.

Our backline has depth. But we've hardly played some of them and must play them alot. Trengrove will only get in the way imo. We need a ruckman 10 times more. Better midfield=better defence

I tend to agree. Priority 1 should be a ruck. However another key defender would be ideal. No doubt we will delist a couple. I could see Trengove and/or Astbury being utility type players with Rance, Grimes and Moore holding the Key back positions.

You have said that Trengove will get in the way before...are you kidding me, he wopuld be an asset... our backline has depth..crap, who are our big bodied defenders?????? Even when our current midfielders are on top we are killed in defence...for Gods sake have a look at the results.

In the world of MadTiger, Cleve Hughes and Luke McGuane are stars while future prospects like Trengove will only get in the way of the brilliance of our backline of Gods

if gourdis and thursfield go id agree. if mcguane and thursfield go they may keep gourdis. i think either way thursfield is gone and one of gourdis mcguane is gone, i hope gourdis is the one they keep.i know hes not done much but i can see him putting it all together clicking if you like imo he has time and attributes over the other two.

and unlike the other two, gourdis is consistantly in the bests at the lower level, which indicates he can actually play, whether he can get that going at senior level is another question
the only thing thrustfield and mcgnome have been best in is the girl's legs competition

We have a very young backline without any experienced monster defenders to take the pressure off the developing talls. It is a joke that we find ourselves in a position where Rance has to be our FB at the ripe old age of 21 BUT he is showing all the signs of becoming a solid rock in our D050 for the next decade. Grimes is a stick figure with extender arms who has pace but lacks confidence and experience BUT with time to develop size, poise and experience, he could well be our CHB for years to come. Astbury is still very raw and is learning the finer arts of shutting down his direct opponent BUT he is a fantastic overhead mark, excellent kick and with additional strength and education will earn his number ten times over.

McGuane is our most experienced tall defender atm at 24 years of age. Moore is more a midsized defender at present and nearing the end of his career. Thursfield is a depth player at best and Post a developing tall.

We have the foundations there, we just need time to build on it without parts of it falling down

I like the Ass berry, but fantastic mark and excellent kick? Bit early to know if that's the case. and would rather him up forward if he truly is a great mark and kick
