when we delist/trade and pick up the following players later this year we'll be much better off.

In: Z Clarke, H McIntosh
Out: Thursfield, Moore, Tuck, White, Graham, Hislop, Miller, Hicks, Taylor, Farmer

'cept Graham has a year to go on his contract, so the out of contract ruck man in Browne will get the chop.

Memo Wayne Carey: Of course the Mould Coast Scums are going to be better than us. This is what inevitably happens when the AFL drops every draft resource available right in your lap, while leaving the Tigers to rot and die.

Agree the concessions given to the Suns & GWS are wrong but all clubs can take some of the blame for that because they signed off on them ...... believe it our not on certain things clubs can veto things if they've got the guts

I am all for whacking the AFL when it's deserved .......

But are you going to blame the AFL for the mistakes we've made at the draft table?

5 picks inside the top 20 in 2004 and the fact that only one player remains on our list isn't the fault of the AFL, that's ours.....

That the player we took in 2005 with pick 8 is gone? AFL fault or ours

Bottom line is if we had drafted better in the period 2004-2007 we'd be better off now. We didn't and now we have to to live with the consequences of that coupled with the concessions granted to the new clubs

Agree with this.

We really couldn't have stuffed up our opportunities more if we tried.

Finish bottom at a time when we have the cream of access to draft picks - not enough resourcing and poor selections.

Increase resourcing and able to select well - draft compromised by introduction of other teams.

We are the worst team in the last 10-15 years at list improvements. At least the likes of Brisbane and Port are coming of premierships.

The facts are that we have improved. The reason it feels, especially to 'outsiders', that we haven't is because we raised expectations with our better than expected performance early in the year. The positives from this period is that it was all achieved off the back of youth.

Excellent point that Stripes

A very disppointing last sentence though Stripes - not relevant to the rest of a really quality reply IMHO

Overall I would have to agree that we have gone backwards. Individually some players have shon, Conca, Martin, Rance, deledio to name a few, but really we have gone backwards. Compare us to the likes of NM, GC, Ess we really should have had a better season, in particular after the way we started the season.
DIMMA - You will be held ACCOUNTABLE...

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.

carey is only carrying on because he didnt have the brains to work out at the end of last yr that cleaning out another 10 or so players would likely mean we would be worse when we do another ten again this yr lets all hope he has learnt a bit about list structure depth and reasonable expectation.

makes sense - which is why i was so flabbergasted with the 3-0-75 campaign. Stipulating we will play 3 x finals series by 2014 was both unrealistic and naive and will needlessly put the club under the pump next year

For the second week, Carey expressed disappointment at Richmond's progress this season, saying their one-goal first-half against Geelong was not good enough.

''Where are Richmond at at the moment?'' he asked. ''We thought they'd improved but they haven't improved one bit - they've probably gone backwards.''

He said the Tigers should take a leaf out of Gold Coast's book. ''You only have to looat the Gold Coast Suns and see the way they continued to take the fight up to Collingwood, and kept taking the game on,'' Carey said. ''For a young side they were fantastic; Richmond take a look at them.

''Right now, if you were asked who you'd like to coach more - out of Adelaide, Richmond, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast - you'd certainly be saying, Gold Coast. There's more upside there.''

I hate to point this out but Gold Coast are not crap, this is their first year in the AFL comp in reality and they are showing some good signs.  I have watched them play and some of their so called young inexperienced players are going to be absolute stars.  I will also remind you that they have some top name veteran players in their list, who have premiership wins on their resume, one of whom has a brownlow.  They will probably fly past us as was intended by the AFL when they were set up.  The only issue they will have is holding onto their younger stars over the course.

I have to agree Owl, imagine if you topped our  list up with  Ablett, Rischitilli, Bock and Smith! Those four players alone would be enough to get us into finals the first year they played!! The gold coast have a great bunch of players and unfortunately they are allready ahead of us in only one season of football!

Also just back to the 04 draft, this would have had to of been one of the worst drafts ever and not just for us! There are only 28 players still running around from that year, we had 6 picks that year and five of those players are still playing (Only 2 with us though).
You take out the top ten of that year of witch 8 are still playing and that gives you 20 players out of the next 70 picks remain. The draft was poo house.
Our strike rate was good but our biggest mistake was taking Tambling over Franklin the rest was a lottery and at the end of the day we ended up with to many similar types.
The 2004 draft was an great opportunity but we could only choose from the cattle that were available and unfortunately most of them were destined for the Indonesian abattoirs ;D

To put in a little more perspective if we had the same picks the following year and took them ad=s they fell we would have had,  Marc Murphy (1) Josh Kennedy (4)  Nathan Jones (12) Richard Douglas (16) and Paul Bower (20) I would imagine all would still be on our list now and having a larger impact than half the players we have.

We havent gone backwards, we added about 14 players last year and 10 this year (appox). Sometimes they shine for bit in year one but its really years three and four you see the improvements. Take this year, Vickery and Rance, many said were not up to it but look at the improvement. Wait till next year when a few of those 14 2010 draftees step up and the year afer were a few of the 2011 draftees step up. We will be fine, although I do fear Gold Coast may take our window away. I still see the light and have faith.
