The Herald-Sun today voted Ivan recruit of the year  :thumbsup

1. IVAN MARIC (Richmond)

It was the big man’s mullet that grabbed our attention in the NAB Cup when the Tigers unveiled their star recruit. Not long after, it was his football that did all the talking. The former Crow dragged the Tigers home several times during their early win bonanza, with Damien Hardwick clapping his hands red at Maric’s ruck dominance and work around the ground. It was no wonder new Crows coach Brenton Sanderson tried to keep Maric, who fell out with Neil Craig, with the lion-hearted 26-year-old racking up 652 hit-outs. He’ll play his 100th game in Round 2 and based on 2012 Tigers fans have a lot to get excited about looking towards his next 100.

Ivan the Great

In just one season with Richmond, Ivan Maric has blossomed into one of the premier ruckmen of the competition.

He thrived on the opportunity presented to him by the Tigers, after being traded by the Adelaide Crows in October 2011, following only 77 games in six seasons with them.

It was a match made in football heaven...the strongly-built, aggressive big man, with a real appetite for the contest, sporting that now famous, flowing mullet, teams up with the passionate, proud, loud Tiger Army, who have long had a penchant for cult figures.

“He’s a leader in his own right, been elevated to our leadership group, and is a player that’s just got an aura around him.  Our players love playing with him." - Hardwick told Fox Sports.

Richmond’s No. 1 ruckman Ivan Maric could be a weapon up forward for the Tigers at times this season . . .

That’s the opinion of Tiger goalkicking great, Matthew Richardson, who feels Maric has the necessary attributes to cause big headaches for opposition backlines.

My theory is our b graders should be at least good enough to break even.

Hence we should play our best in the forward line. Worth it just for the deledio-cotchin interaction.

HF: Deledio - Riewoldt - Cotchin
FF: Martin - Maric - Vickery/Griffiths

Okay by that theory Bents you are expecting our B graders to actually get the ball out of the middle against the likes of Pendlebury, Swan, Ablett, Dangerfield, Boyd, Watson....need I go on?
thats like putting 18 inch rims, hotdog and full sports kit on a Daewoo Matiz.

Foley and Tuck are two of our better inside midfielders so it is not as unrealistic as you allude to. We only require these two to be fit and play well and then the option of allowing our best players to be more attacking comes into consideration. One of; Knights/Ellis/Helbig/Newman/Morris/Aarnot/Conca etc. will ( :pray) fill the void.
