Ivan Maric two weeks away

The Tigers plan to give ruckman Ivan Maric some game time in his return from an ankle injury against Box Hill in two weeks.

The Tigers have missed Maric but have been cautious with the former Crow since his pre-season ankle surgery.

“Ivan’s joined in training with the main group this week, which is great, he’s feeling really good. We’re looking hopefully to get him some game time in the VFL after the bye,” Tigers elite performance manager Peter Burge said.

It would mean Maric’s likely AFL return would be either in round 10 against Greater Western Sydney or round 11 against Essendon.

Footy Classified interviewed Big Ivan today and he said he thought he would only be out for 6-8 weeks but the recovery has taken longer than he initially thought. He now just wants to dominate in the VFL so the coaches are forced to pick him for the seniors.

Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric is set to make his first appearance of the year in the VFL this weekend after a start to the season hampered by ankle setbacks.

"I‘m going to play about a half in the VFL on Saturday. It’s been a bit of a wait but I’m really looking forward to it," Maric told Footy Classified.

"My ankle is feeling 100 per cent, the best it’s felt for a very long time. I did some really hard training last week and it’s pulled up well. I’m confident going into this week," he said.

Hardwick also said it was likely Ivan Maric would need more than one VFL game, with the ruckman to play 60 minutes this weekend, after overcoming a pre-season ankle injury.

Given Maric and new ruckman Shaun Hampson haven't trained together, let alone played together, Hardwick admitted it could take time for their partnership to jell when they were both in the seniors.
