I wouldn't of called our round 1 game this year an embarrassment.
I thought we put in a fighting effort.

I wouldn't of called our round 1 game this year an embarrassment.
I thought we put in a fighting effort.

We played well in the 3rd quarter and early on in the 4th but apart from that we were smashed. We were lucky Carlton were off-target in the first half to keep us in it. The second meeting showed there's still a massive gap between us. I can handle us losing as long as we are competitive rather than witches hats.

So what happens when we 'jag' one of these?

The wheels come off Pricefix Park that's what

Beat Carlton round 1 and there'll be 90k the following week against the Pies.

If we can get to round 6 at even 2-4 then our season will still be alive provided we then don't drops games we should win as we did this year losing to Port and the Suns.

I don't mind the draw after that, but I'm a bit dirty that we may have to claw our way back into the season after facing four of 2011's top five straight up. I understand we need to be good enough to beat these sides if we want to be a serious top 8 contender, but every year our season is done by the midway point and it would be nice to hang in a bit longer for a change.

They give every opportunity to have the stuffing knocked out of our boys in the early part of the season.

Nathan Thompson is actually on the money with what he said.

The season will rest on games against the interstate sides (must wins in Melbourne and against GWS/GC away) and against those middle of the road Vic sides - Melbourne, St Kilda, Bulldogs, Essendon and North. That's 17 of the 22 up for grabs. Need to win 12 of these unless we pinch a underdog win or two against the top sides. On top of that we need a percentage that is at least above 100. Actually for me seeing us maintain a good percentage even if we miss the finals will be another sign of continued improvement. It should indicate we've been for once genuinely competitive against the top sides even in defeat. I'll be happy  this year to see more baby steps towards genuinely building a premiership side as we still have a very young and inexperienced list.

I agree MT. The percentages don't lie. If we can keep it over the magic 100, the rest should fall into place.
