Yeah I would rate it as shrewd. Especially when I glanced over Blair Hartley's chat on the Tigers website. The reality was, even though we wanted a big name, none were prepared to offer it as the reality was no-one was prepared to offer us the big names.
Anyway, my pick by pick analysis:
Pick 14 for Morris and Pick 15 (GWS) = A grade move. Take one spot back, which still should produce a player we've targetted. You would think/ hope its netted us two players who should be in the best 22 by the end of either this year, but certainly the year after next. (BTW does anyone think that with the rumours surrounding Thursfield indicate that a KPB is high on the agenda... Talia?)
Pick 37 for Ivan Maric = B+ move. I like the look of Maric but proof will be in the pudding. At the end of the day, he has given us a ruckman who can at least even up the chances for our midfield. Could be a better stop gap whilst the club either a) chace a ruckman through the draft or free agency or b) stockpile enough assets to trade for a better ruckman.
Morton for Pick 79 = D+ Grade Move. Get a higher pick 4. Again, the proof will be in the pudding in terms of what we do. I wouldn't think that they would upgrade a rookie listed player but will take an ex-AFL player, like a Pratt or someone. Depends on who gets delisted between now and the draft really. But if he was going to get pre-listed might as well get something back for him.
Compo pick (Bock) for Compo pick (N.Krakour) and pick 26 = A grade move. Give us 5 picks in the first two rounds in the next 5 years. Again, this is vitally important I think for a team that hopefully in three years time will be in a position to play deep into finals and also to be a club of preference for those who want to be traded. Like Hawthorn was this year.
Overall happy. Thinks it sets us up well asset wise for the coming years, and doesn't detract at all from the current list. I would give it a nice B+ overall. Solid effort.
