Can Richmond get to 60,000 next year? Will we get their legitimately or will we do a Hawthorn and sign up all living creatures who walk on 4 legs or reside in the animal big house known as the Royal Melbourne Zoo. Benny Gale needs to fire up! He needs to use all marketing means at his disposal. He needs to pamphlet drop the animals at the zoo and get them to change their minds and join the Tiges.  ;D

60k is the goal
We targeted 50k this year and got 53k. So I'm guessing while we'll target 60k next year, the Club will be hoping for say 63k and then in 2014 have a target of 70k hoping to actually push up to the 75k in line with the 3-0-75 plan. Need a good start next year with finals looking a near certainty throughout the season for any of that to happen IMO. To get to 70k in 2014 we'll need to look like genuine contenders so all the bandwagoners and those who have been burnt by false dawns believe again and sign up.

How is that working out for ya?    :whistle
lol

The "3" part was always the most overtly optimistic (ie. deluded  :whistle) part of the plan. With our current list no way were we going to make finals this year. The top liners are very good but as we all know we have no depth with utter spuds at the bottom end. The "0" debt by 2014 and 75k members is genuinely possible provided we make finals next year and back it up with a top 4 finish in 2014.

2-0-75 :clapping
Yep the plan will probably end up being a year off.

no way were we going to make finals?
if our defense and forward line were both 1 goal a week better we wouldnt be far off top 4.

When you look at some of the game we dropped, we should be gearing up for our first finals appearance in yonks.
"if" the important word there al. Most sides that genuinely challenge for finals have strong second halves to the season - eg: Hawks, North, Freo & Geelong. Our form fell away in the second half of the year. We weren't playing near the standard we did say against Hawthorn and Sydney when we had close to our best 22 on the park. Once we lost a couple of key players midseason and our depth was tested we not surprisingly fell away. It was always going to happen. We were too young and inexperienced to be finals contenders. We need another 4-5 quality players to finally get there.

pretty much agree with most of that MT, except for it was always going to happen. we didnt need too much to go our way to be making up the numbers next week

IMO our best footy improved significantly this year; Our worst is still too far off the pace and has proved costly this year hence the need for 4-5 more quality players so the schoolboy errors are minimized further and those cringeworthy brainfades virtually disappear altogether.

If next year is similar to 2012 as far as the draw, not losing any of our elite A-graders like Cotch, Lids or Jack and we gain a couple of quality players then yep al we should play finals in 2013. Still as Carlton found this year nothing is guaranteed. We'll still be a young side compared to the rest of the comp. and some guys who came in this year and had good seasons could get 2nd year blues. Hopefully we have far more blokes who improve than stagnate or drop off next year  :pray.

As much as many of us didn't think we'd make finals the club had already penciled this year in.
Hardwick has already stated that this year was a fail because of this.
Facts are we shouldn't have lost 2 unlosable games to both GC and the scum.  :banghead Then you win atleast one either freo or north and we are playing finals this year.
No excuses!
The club that keeps giving.

And yet 1 kick in the dying seconds of 3 games rolls the other way and we are in.  I wouldn't say overtly optimistic or deluded is very fair or reflective MT.  We might not have been competitive had we made it but as you have pointed out, 2-0-75 is very achievable and we have likely missed the "3" by a very small margin.

AFL CLUB memberships have burst through the 700,000 mark for the first time.

The 18 AFL clubs totaled 707,621 members this year, up 1.1 per cent from last year's figure of 699,684.

Of the seven clubs to build their membership base in 2012, North Melbourne and Richmond had the biggest membership climb. The Tigers had the most new members (5372) while North had the greatest percentage increase with its 3509 new members causing a 11.73 per cent spike.

Carlton, Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn and West Coast were the only other clubs to record membership increases.

Collingwood was once again the largest-supported AFL club with 72,688 members, breaking a record for any club in the competition's history. Hawthorn (60,841), West Coast (57,377) and Richmond (53,027) were the other clubs to break the 50,000 barrier.

Are these the final officially endorsed AFL figures? Last year we had 47k members in total but the AFL knocked us down to 40k because they didn't recognise our non-ticketed members or because we didn't pay $50k or something like that for some barcode that makes it all kosher. It would be great if this year the whole 53k is recognised as it should be. While the revenue from memberships is the most important thing, there is a marketing and sponsorship factor in being able to say we have 53k members which is top 4 in the AFL. Probably even top 3 if the Eagles' waiting list membership is excluded. Just an amazing effort given the 3 clubs still ahead of us have won flags and regularly played finals in the past 6 years. As I was told be someone high up at the Club, the AFL sees its greatest growth in the next few years coming from us becoming successful onfield aside from the two new clubs.

Do we have income from memberships?

That IMHO would be more interesting.

This was posted on BF a while back (Dec. 2011).

Hawthorn - $11,705,117
Carlton -    $11,617,793
