Our focus was on using the elite facilities and our training was based around that.

No, Cotchin deflated that story in his interview.

* Facilities at the club are brilliant now. Matched what we saw over in the US so we are lucky to have them.

Errr no he didn't he actually backed it in the context of what my comment was about  ;D

A few posts back there is a link to an article about Ellis "relishing high altitude training".

I said:

Well I am sure he would have "relished" the "high altitude training" if we had done it  ::)

To which Damo commented:

Tempe in Arizona is nearly 1200 feet above sea level. This is where the camp was held and is obviously a far higher altitude than Punt Rd.

In a follow up to that I made the comment about the RFC's focus on Arizona was using the "elite facilities" rather that high altitude training which is what Cotch actually said in his interview last night

Yes he said our facilities are equal to what's over there but he also said that we didn't go over there to do high altitude traing but use the facilities which was what I was saying  :thumbsup

From what i understand he is progressing well. Rarely missing targets and is exceptionally fit for a rookie.

Seems genuinely stoked. I love this kid :'). Definitely a shoe in for an early season Rising Star nomination.

The specialist

BRANDON Ellis, Richmond's first pick in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, is likely to be entrusted with kick-in duties in his first year on the Tigers' list.

Ellis, 18, is expected to be named in the Tigers' line-up for their now traditional round one clash against Carlton at the MCG.

If he's near the ball, he's been given permission by the coaches to take the kick-in.

Ellis, who was taken at No.15 by the Tigers, said today he would fall behind teammates such as captain Chris Newman and fellow half-back Bachar Houli in the kick-out pecking order.

"It just depends who's closest to the ball," Ellis said. "If it's a slow play, Chris Newman will usually take the kick."

Ellis looked bashful when asked whether he might try a torpedo from full-back. Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson revealed this week that he would be instructing his players to use torpedoes to break defensive presses.

"I don't think I'll be unloading any torps," Ellis said. "(But) if I get told to do one, I'll be happy to do one."

Ellis said he loved his first experience of an AFL match, against North Melbourne in the first round of the NAB Cup, even if he found the pace and intensity of the game to be hot early.

"In the first five minutes I got lost a bit," he said.

"Playing at Etihad against the team I've followed all my life, North Melbourne, was weird — but a dream come true.

"To play on Brent Harvey, who I've idolised for 10 years, was unreal."

After collecting 20 possies and 5 tackles yesterday, Ellis would be a shoe-in to make his official debut in round 1 now. Not bad for a pick 15 after GWS picked the guts out of the draft.
