Brett O'Hanlon [merged]
« on: November 30, 2011, 05:55:08 PM »
From AFL twitter: "Pending AFL approval, six clubs will have picks in pre-season draft on 13 Dec: GWS, WB, Rich, GC, Port, Freo. Order to be confirmed next wk. "

The PSD order is most likely:

1. GWS
2. GC
3. Port - Leon Davis?
4. Rich - John McCarthy?
5. Freo - Zac Dawson
6. WB

How keen is port really on Davis? I suppose it will come down to what money he wants?

Fev to the Dogs makes sense with Barry Hall retired. Lovett is the other one who may or may not get picked up. Will Sheedy give him a third chance as one of his former players?

Have concerns about recruiting players from collingwood. If we pick up McCarthy hope he turns out to be an inspired draft pick

McCarthy is going to need to put a price on his head to ensure hie gets to Richmond me thinks

Caro is saying in this mornings Age that although Port want to take Davis they can't offer him more than $200k because of thier money woes so they will look to McCarthy

So in other words we got rid of the goo, may not replace him with who the club wants? And be left to give davis a take it or leave it offer of cold pizza and a #46 guernsy?

I think Davis may end up clubless
Port will snare mccarthy

Iif McCarthy puts a price on his head that Port cannot match, then he will end up at the Tigers ;D

Getting McCarthy wont be to hard. We can just get him to state a figure they wont match. Even front loading a 2 year deal would make it hard for Port.

obviously anything over $200k a season would make it hard for Port  ;D

The other way he could put port off is to ask for a one year contract only.

I'd be very surprised if they picked an unwilling, mature player from interstate anyways.

Is McCarthy worth more than a rookie wage at the moment? He has done little to fill me will hope that he will become a star. Collingwood are the most capable identifers and developers of talent in the country yet they delisted him. He may be a servicable depth player but paying him overs in fear of losing his to another club may be a little premature. $200 grand is still under the average but I would not feel comfortable if his asking price started pushing into the 'good' player range when he has not earned it to date. :-\

If McCarthy wants to be a Tiger, he will be. I'm happy to let it play out, happy if he is called by us, happy to back the recruiters to give someone else a go if Port take him.

I'm guessing if we lose out on McCarthy, Plan B will be to promote Maric from rookie to PSD.
