O’Hanlon’s goal
By Tony Greenberg

“I want to be competitive and I’m determined to do well.  I’ll try and break into the (Richmond) team and, if not, I just want to have an impact around the Club,” O’Hanlon said.

“I’d like to play (for Richmond), but if it doesn’t happen, you can always play well at Coburg and just have an impact around the guys, even at weight sessions, or training.”

O’Hanlon was delighted when Richmond Recruiting Manager, Francis Jackson, read his name out at pick nine overall in Tuesday’s pre-season draft, after he was overlooked in the November National Draft.

“I’m rapt for the opportunity.  I got the call from Francis about half an hour before the pre-season draft and he said he was 99% sure he was going to take me with the No. 9 pick,” he said.

“I had high hopes for the National Draft and it was disappointing (to miss out), but you’ve got to move along quickly and there are always more opportunities out there.  I thought I was a big chance for the rookie draft, but I was rapt to go in the pre-season . . .”

All the best to Brett in his debut AFL game  :clapping

---------------------------------------------------------

Teenage forward Brett O’Hanlon will make his AFL debut with Richmond in Saturday’s Round 11 clash with Fremantle at the MCG.

O’Hanlon has won his call-up to Richmond’s senior side following a series of impressive performances at VFL level with Coburg.

The 189cm, 87kg, 18-year-old was taken by the Tigers with their pick in the 2011 pre-season draft after impacting strongly for TAC Cup team Dandenong Stingrays throughout last year, and earning selection for the Vic Country team at the under-18 national championships.

He is a lead-up, medium-sized forward, renowned for his marking ability, penetrating left-foot kicking, decision-making, and defensive pressure.
