Off BF:
Quote
They won by around 15. It was hard to tell though cause even if a goal was scored they would kick it out or do a boundary throw in etc to simulate different situations.

Good things; our intensity was good, the young guys didn't take a back step. Post was very solid and grimes is a man possessed probably should mark more. White ran hard made some nice passes, king broke the lines a bit.

Derickx and vickery have strong hands, around 5-6 contested marks between them (game went for 2 x 20 min qtrs) we switched the ball well but still over possessed at times which got us into trouble. We looked inside when passing too.

Arnott and Ellis impressed, very hard at it. Arnott throws his weight around. Cleaned a hawks player up and he stayed down for a while..

Below are notes I took on my phone, bit scratchy and negative but its something. I'll try add more later.

Richmond v hawks game;
Pre game training, graham dropped some easy marks. Ball launched into the air. Maric has strong hands.
Game;
- good ball movement. Derickx good hands. Arnott sheperds.
Helbig fumble under pressure
-maric hard at it
-Jackson needs to use first option
-graham needs to not kick.
-Connors playing up forward
-we get exposed on the rebound.
-struggle from kick ins
Tried to maintain possession in the middle of the ground. As soon as we played on with a dinky handball we turned it over.
- Ellis kicking out
- sloppy handballing when trying to play on quickly around half forward.
- grimes always gives a contest
-switching better, looking inside a lot.
-post looks good

Just got back .
Will say this.
Dimma would be pulling his hair out at a few.
Daniel Connors ::)
Maric ?? Goes hard ,but was up against Adam Pattison who is rookied by the Hawks.
Turnovers turnovers turnovers
None of our guns played, none of theirs either
although we would of had a more senior team in
Shoemakers was probably there most experienced.
Vickery looks set for a big year.
Derickx as well.

I stopped by for a while
Was happy with what I saw from Derikx, agree with Jackstar there
Brandon Ellis wasnt too bad either, and was handling kick in duties when I got there
Some good passages of play and some not so good.
Agree with the turnover's comment and also when the hawks were coming outta defence it didnt take long nor was hard work to get into F50 or a result.

Alot of what I saw covered in that BF post anyhow
The anywhere, anytime Tigers.

Did Hawthorn win by 15 points?

Who played and who scored goals?

According to the report on BF the Hawks by 15.

It sounds like this was another one of those joint Richmond-Hawthorn sessions for both clubs' younger players spoken about last year and organised between Clarkson and Dimma.

The turnovers and poor kicking I keep hearing about (and have witnessed) from training and now this paint a consistent and very concerning picture.  >:(

The culprits need to be read the riot act and told to improve or GF to Coburg, otherwise it's going to be a long long year for us fans.

Not good enough in modern football.  :banghead

Connors is a lost cause and a complete waste of space. Has lost alot of size to the point it is now a liabilty for him. Is clearly going through the motions of his contract and will be goneski at the end.

It was a hit out for the younger guys, probably not used to the game plan, they would have been playing like the first 9 rounds of 2010.  :rollin Will be different when the experienced players are in the side.

The Hawthorn squad was Smith, Bruest, Suckling, Bailey, Frank, Wanganeen, Kelly, Culkin, Woodward, Hallahan, Schnieder, Savage, Patto, Gunston, Cheney, Schoey, Langers, Puopolo, Hill, Duryea and Litherland.

A view of us from a Hawks fan:

I wouldn't expect either side to take much out of todays game. Both sides were very junior.

Hawks were also very sloppy with the footy, but then again it's the first game against an unknown opponent, so the structures and pressures are different to what they have been doing during the pre season.

Your tall structures up forward look good, but then again you didn't have Riewoldt there, so not sure what your real structure would look like. You did manage to get a guy free on a few occasions in the F50, which is good for you and a worry for us.

You also seem to play a guy who plays loose in defence, but right on the boundary, as a get out option. Not sure who the player was, but he was basically unmanned and stays within 5-10 metres of the chalk. You used him a bit to clear it out of D50. Must be one of your better users of the footy.

Nahas played up the ground in a rebounding role. King was further up the ground too. Gibson Turner looks to have a great turn of speed.

Some of your blokes were having a real crack (possibly a bit more than what the agreement was), and I think Arnott, who cleaned up Hallahan was told to ease up, and ensured he made an apology after the siren.

DIMMA - You will be held ACCOUNTABLE...

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.
