True Gracie. As unlikely it is to gain members living India we'd only need a tiny fraction of the total population to show interest and it will still result in big numbers by Australia's size.

The 'G is packed so even getting a chunk of Australian Indians in the crowd tonight to follow us in the footy during the winter would add a few thousand new members. Nothing to sneeze at. If you discover a Y&B heart then you're welcome no matter where you come from  .

I applaud the initiative , way to go TIGERS...for starters we should be looking to introduce yellow & black saris and turbans into the merchandise range, Id wear one...what a crack up if 60,000 fans turned up in Y&B turbans ...would be NEWS right around the globe...and the marketing spin from that would be phenominal

The EPL clubs are all making a big push in India as well.

There's no internationally renowned Indian soccer players either.

Arsenal, Barcelona, Man U all have memberships (about $50) that provide access to exclusive web content.  Arsenal has 57000 +/- members who have game/seat access.  They're aiming at millions without game access and only "web/club membership".

If you don't try and sructure some form of membership, well you'll get zero dollars.  If you try and build something then at least you have a chance.

Ive seen these indian supporters on TV tonight at the cricket. Anyone wanting those idiots to become our supporters need their heads read. Seriously if a few thousand of these clowns start rocking up to our games they'll stuff up the whole club.

Why? They are no more passionate/feral than our own Grog Squad and Cheer Squad. When we are up and about our supporter base and large crowds intimidate everyone else including Collingwood supporters. When we finally start winning and making finals regularly the AFL won't know what hit it  .

As for making an impact in India, we'd be basically pioneers. Aussie Rules has barely got a presence anywhere even at amateur level unlike say in the USA or in some European countries where there are regular amateur comps. Apparently according to Wikipedia there's some starter clubs in Kolkata which provided some players combined with Australian-based Indians for the International Cup.

The West Australian Football League toured India in 1969, playing a series of exhibition matches between East Perth and Subiaco Football Clubs, which attracted large crowds and interest.[13]

Australian rules football began in India with the creation of the Indian Amateur Australian Football Association in 2001. The organisation was based in Delhi, but disbanded in 2004.[14]

The potential for the game has several times attracted interest from Australia, with the WAFL proposing an exhibition match for Mumbai.[15]

The next appearance of organised Australian rules in India came with the visit of Brian Dixon to Calcutta in 2006 which resulted in the formation of starter clubs in the city and a platform for the development of an Indian team for the 2008 Australian Football International Cup. The first Indian national team was drawn from players recruited by the AFL India in Kolkata, as well as Indian nationals living in Melbourne.[16][17]

THE debut of Docker Clancee Pearce tonight against Port Adelaide is another example of the code's penetration into non-traditional breeding grounds, AFL talent manager Kevin Sheehan believes.

The 18-year-old is the fifth player of Indian heritage to be associated with an AFL club, according to the league, and tonight joins champion Eagle Daniel Kerr and Jordan McMahon, who last night played for Richmond against his old club the Bulldogs, in reaching the elite level.

The only other player of Indian descent to have played with a current AFL club was Jack Pringle, who stepped out for the Blues back in 1923, while Balraj Singh was on Adelaide's list but did not play a senior game.

Despite what others are saying, we would have no troubles filling a ground with our new found Indian friends. They turn up in their thousands just to see the opening of a lunch box.
