Hold that Tiger
By Paul Daffey
Tue 07 Feb, 2012

RICHMOND president Gary March is confident that the contract situations of midfielder Brett Deledio and coach Damien Hardwick can be sorted out in the coming months.

Deledio and Hardwick are both out of contract at the end of the season, and Deledio has asked that talks be put off.

March said the club had ben pleased with Hardwick's first two years in charge.

"The club won’t be discussing his contract situation," he said. "We have a process in place and we will make an announcement when we are ready to do so.

He said he was confident that Richmond's Fighting Tiger Fund could raise $6 million and eradicate the club's debt. It was this fund that enabled the recent upgrade of the Punt Road surface.

Richmond has 32,000 members and is well on the way to attracting 50,000 members for the first time in the club's history.

March said the club was well-placed to achieve success.

"My aims have not changed since I became president (in 2006)," he said.

"They were to provide Richmond with elite facilities, run a profitable club, clear the existing debt and ensure we become a sustainable finals team in the AFL.

"We are still striving to do this and I hope it happens during my tenure."

It seems the club maybe learning by not rushing into making decisions.

March said re : Dimma there is a process in place and we will make a decision when we are ready to do so.

Great response and i hope the club see the year out before signing him up.

Everyone needs to be on their toes and on the same page. Finals is the absolute pass mark.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

"Great response and i hope the club see the year out before signing him up."

Unless like at Hawthorn last year it becomes obvious he needs to be re-signed.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Interesting strategy here.

Good idea for the club to be proactive with media releases like this re touchy topics.
Goes some way towards heading off headline speculation from the tabloids and takes the heat out of situations of interest.
If we keep ramming home the party line on where we are placed on the likes of Dimma & Deledio, the media will lose interest and chase other stories.
Hopefully..

Agree  :thumbsup

But I reckon the media will be driven to a degree by the hysterical reaction of some supporters  ;D

History shows us the media trawl through sites like this one to get reactions  ;D

Wouldn't be an off season without making everyone believe the wheels are falling off at Tigerland.

It's better than them being sadistic, pumping up the tyres to bursting point, then watching us cry into our scarfs after the Blues humiliate us in the first round.

Marginally better.  :thumbsup
