MELBOURNE forward Liam Jurrah is being held in custody in an Alice Springs jail following an incident involving a machete.
Melbourne officials are desperately trying to find out details, but have been able to confirm that Jurrah is one of two men in custody.
Jurrah was last week released by the Demons to return home to the Northern Territory to deal with some family issues.
The club has released the following statement:
"The club has been advised that Liam Jurrah, who is currently on personal leave to deal with family and community issues in Central Australia, is being held by police following an incident overnight. No charges have been laid.
"We are not aware of any further information and therefore not in a position to make comment at this time."
Northern Territory police attended a disturbance at Little Sisters Town Camp on the outskirts of Alice Springs overnight.
"On arrival police found a 35-year-old man with serious head injuries alleged to have been inflicted by a machete," a police spokesperson told the AFL website.
"Two men aged 23 years are currently in police custody with investigations continuing."
It is not known if Jurrah was responsible for any injuries to the man or if he was directly involved.
The incident followed an earlier stabbing of a young man in an Alice Springs car park. A 30-year-old woman is in custody in relation to the incident.
Jurrah has been sidelined with a wrist injury throughout the pre-season.
