If labor doesn't retain at least 10 seats they lose party status, they only have 5 atm.  You have created a stuffing nightmare for yourselves, there will be no checks and balances, it will be open slather, Joe Bo will look like a saint.  Qld will be reduced to woodchips and slag heaps, something for the grandkids to look forward to.

What's with the prejudice, Owl?  Are you a Labor loyalist or do you have some substance behind those comments that on their own sound grossly inflamttory?  I'm genuinely interested since I'm not from Queensland and the few Queenslanders I've spoken to about politics and all the media have been only critical about Labor.

I also doubt Labor will lose their party status, there is no way it will happen.  THey'll find a way to make sure it wont happen if it falls under 10.

Amazing victory to the Liberals though.  We all expected a landslide but this is unreal.

The socialists got routed or rooted or screwed. Dont know if they won any seats. Last time I looked it was like 73 seats to 5 or something lawl. As one of the guests said on one of the panels tonight, today was queenslanders telling Gillard and her Federal Labor colleagues what we all know already and that is Australians are waiting for Labor with baseball bats at every election. Every election they are being routed.

According to Sky News

ALP 6 LNP 75 Other 4 In Doubt 4 :o

A swing against the ALP of about 15%

That's right Flagman. It smells so much like the early 90's when Labor was being routed by landslides one by one after years of crap taxes policies mismanagement and debt.

Well I always say, don't let the facts I linked get in the way of your opinion and feel free to ignore any of the explanations that rationally illuminate some of the issues that have befallen Qld over the past 3 years because an irrational reactionary hatred of the labor is much more balanced approach.  I ran a business from 1999 til a few years ago, I don't blame the govt. for any of my business failings, they are my own and so are yours.  I was posted in QLD for years and having family and friends up there running multiple small business, I will say that the work ethic and attitude up there is a little off the pace compared to what we are used to down south.  The people I know took over several business that were run into the ground by lazy owners.  All of them turned the businesses from rubbish to profitable very quickly with some hard work.

The issues in this state go back a lot longer than 3 years Owl and the fact you think that, only highlights your ignorance to what has been happening up here.  A former speaker from the local Labor government admitted as much in an interview tonight.  I also failed in business up here and don't blame the government for my failing however to say the local work ethic and attitude is "a little off the pace compared to what we are used to down south" is arrogant, ignorant and inaccurate in the extreme.  Coming from someone with such a strong link and interest in a disenfranchised minority this comment is gobsmacking in it's attitude.  I honestly thought a lot more of your opinions before reading this post.  "Don't let the facts I linked get in the way of your opinion"?  Wow, it must be exalting and breathtaking to sit so far above the common masses who have just voted out this government in a way not seen before in Australian politics.  How does it feel to be one of the few righteous ones - those whose opinions are above the 'uneducated'? I will sleep much better tonight knowing that you're so right and the huge majority of the rest of us are so wrong.

Liberals will still afford Labor their major party status TA.  Same thing happened on the other foot a few years back before the Liberals and Nationals joined forces and Labor maintained recognition of them as a major party.  One of the key Liberal figures indicated tonight (without saying the words) that it won't happen and Labor will still maintain their rightful status.

With the amount of wealth in the ground in WA Perth should end up growing faster than all capital cities. If the state govt is smart they will have sufficient taxes in place to facilitate infrastructure projects (physical and social).

QLD does it well, Melb and Syd dont.

We are under 24 hours from kicking out the most inept government I have seen in my 35+ voting years and that is really saying something!  Qld is as close to bankrupt as you would want your government to get.  Sufficient taxes???  F me - there is not enough taxation capacity left in this state to pull us from the mire that 20 years of crony-ism has left us with!
Yeah sorry not buying this, Queensland is currently enjoying a boom, I don't know what information your being fed or what the agenda is here but it is incorrect.  The disasters that have hit Queensland have been a serious challenge but I am befuddled by your comments.

You vote these LNP mugs in, and you will have no-one but yourselves to blame for what happens, the article is pro LNP.  My point is that QLD is not in financial trouble.  In fact if you check here
http://www.oesr.qld.gov.au/products/publications/qld-state-accounts/index.php
and have a look at the chart which shows QLD's economic growth, it far outstrips the rest of Australias over the past 10 years only slowing in the last few years, in which we have had some pretty serious natural disasters which even the most deluded right wing or left wing nutters couldn't blame on each other.

sorry owl

but that is absolute crap, if you take out mining and road building, qld is rooted and has been for 3 years. Everybody is struggling big time

The economy is really really bad and having owned a business up there for the last 10 years I have to agree with smoking, the sooner we get these bunnies out the better.

havent failed at all mate, but thanks for your concern.

And as for the work ethic of qlders, its as good as anywhere down south if not better

With that sort of majority you banana Benders want to hope the incoming govt is competent

For sure Al.  Doesn't normally lead to healthy government when the opposition is minimal and that will be just one of the new government's challenges.  What is does point out however, is that regardless of the party, people will not stand for lying and incompetence, especially when that behaviour starts at the top and becomes entrenched in the government way.  The previous government stopped listening many years back and would have been booted a few years ago if there had been a viable alternative.  It wasn't until the coalition parties combined behind a strong leader that the alternative became 'real' and yesterday is testament to how badly this state was being governed.  And if you needed any proof of the state of mind of each party then their respective campaigns showed that up glaringly.  Labor ran a pure muck-raking and scare-mongering campaign without offering anything in the way of policy or plans for correcting any of the state's ills - the LNP campaign was the exact opposite as they concentrated on fixing the problems with new plans and new policies, and refused to be drawn into a mud-slinging contest.  Another message for our pollies in that I would think.

common problems when governments of all persuasions are in power too long smokey.

we see it time and time again.

power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I did have to laugh at Anna's desperate attempt to limit the damage in the last days of the campaign. :wallywink

Its always a worry when the incumbent government runs a smear campaign on the opposition rather than concentrating on what they have achieved themselves.
Jack Boot Johnny's last campaign is another example of that.

Too true Al.  You would think they would learn from past governments and it makes you wonder seriously about the general intelligence level doesn't it.  As you say, the corrupting power influence is a biggy!
