Easy, Tiger: Cloke on hold Jake Niall and Jon Pierik
The Age
July 25, 2012 RICHMOND says it would be ''duty-bound'' to consider Travis Cloke as a recruit but only if his situation with Collingwood became ''irreparable'' after the Magpies put contractual talks with the power forward on hold until the end of the season.
The Tigers echoed Carlton's ''unlikely'' stance - that they believed Cloke would stay with the Magpies. They have not made Cloke any offer.
Richmond football department head, Craig Cameron, said of Cloke, whose father David played more than 200 games for the Tigers: ''Our understanding has always been that he would remain at Collingwood. But if that situation becomes irreparable, we're duty-bound to look at any way to improve our list.''
But the Tigers are unlikely to be in a position to offer Cloke the kind of terms that Fremantle are thought to have dangled (ie. $5m over 5 years).
The decision to put talks on hold arguably opens the door further for rival clubs, although many in the industry still believe he will remain a Magpie.
Cloke had wanted between $750,000 and $800,000 to remain a Magpie in a five-year deal.
