Thanks torch for the initial write up  :thumbsup

Richmond VFL Team Round 1

Dea              ^Darrou        Astbury
Bachelor       McIntosh      Petterd
Arnot             ^Thomas       Gordon
McDonough    McBean        A.Edwards
Lennon          Griffiths        ^Banfield

R: ^Stephenson   Helbig   *Contin

I: O'Hanlon, Elton, Lloyd, ^Williams/Simon

A strong lineup though low on outside ball users imo. Our developing talls make this a top heavy team but laden with talented, developing KPP.  Griffiths and McBean would have to take turns as the backup ruckman with this lineup. I would hope players like  Thomas, Miles, Helbig, Contin and Arnot can win us plenty of clearances to get it down to our very damaging forwardline.

Reserves: ^Miles, *Wall, *McQualter, *Howat, *Barlow
(Any Other Richmond VFL Top-Ups, Other Rookies)

^ Richmond Rookie Listed Players
* Richmond VFL Top-Ups

Richmond AFL Team Round 1

Newman         Chaplin           Morris
Houli              Rance             Grimes
Ellis                Martin            Deledio
Knights           Riewoldt        S.Edwards
Maric           Vickery          King

R: Hampson    Cotchin   Conca

I: Grigg, Jackson, Vlastuin

Sub: Foley

I would love to see players like McBean, Lennon, Astbury and Arnot push into the team early next year. Funny, but I actually do think we are lacking in midfield depth after completing this exercise. Thomas and Arnot are the only two I would consider bringing in if we had injuries but after that I think we drop away very quickly. I hope some of our new small forwards could develop into midfield depth too.

shouldn't a senior listed player (Lloyd) take the place of a VFL top up player (Contin) in the starting 18?

One would hope Helbig should be able to produce the equal of a Thomas or Arnot. Gordon is a midfielder, at least one would hope.

Lloyd starting on the bench means nothing. Just that he needed another mid so went Contin. However, Miles will be one of the 1st chosen if he's not picked for AFL in Round 1.

Is there a reserve team for the VFL side (in other words a 3rd teir team). We obviously won't be able to fit everyone in the VFL side unless we are cruelled by injury.

No Stripes

Bents is right I have answered this a number of times. But Bents is also wrong as I have no intention of destroying anything  ;D

AFL sides with stand alone sides in the VFL (Geelong, Pies, Bumbmlings, Footscray and Tigers) only field a side in the VFL comp, they do not field a team in the "development" (aka VFL ressies) league

Our VFL listed players if not playing for our VFL side will go back to their nominated local club in a a local league eg EDFL, VAFA, WRFL etc.
