Wed 15 August, 2012 RICHMONDWhispers: Port Adelaide key defender Troy Chaplin is the only player who's been strongly linked to the Tigers.
Commodities: Richmond doesn't particularly have a surplus of one type of player, but it does have players it could try to trade out. Tom Derickx, Angus Graham, Addam Maric, Luke McGuane, Jayden Post, Jeromey Webberley and Matthew White would be in that mix. The Tigers would be prepared to trade players or picks, but they wouldn't go for a veteran as their premiership window is not yet open.
Needs: The Tigers need a big-bodied key defender who’s around the mid-career stage. The Brown twins, Nathan (Collingwood) and Mitchell (West Coast), fit that brief. The Tigers believe their recent record of developing recycled players is good, so they could also look at Tayte Pears (Essendon), who hasn't been the same player since returning this season from a series of injuries. Chaplin (Port Adelaide) has been on the radar for the past month.
Trade history: Richmond has been active during recent trade weeks, building up its depth and firepower through acquisitions such as Ivan Maric (Adelaide), Shaun Grigg (Carlton) and Steven Morris (GWS). Football operations boss Craig Cameron is on record as saying the Tigers will consider all avenues to strengthen their list, so there could well be more action this year.
Fantasy trade: Nathan Foley, although a popular figure at the club, could be expendable given his recent history with injury and the talent coming through in Richmond's midfield. Essendon needs midfielders. A swap of Foley for Pears could work for both parties.
