Uuuummmm, why Choco ?

Realistically what can Willaims bring to the table that someone such as a Richardson couldn't in a development role ?

A destablising influence & divisive figure perhaps ?

Too many ex-Port peolple already at RFC - Hardwick, Lade, Hartley & perhaps Chaplan.

RFC certainly needed a culture change - but to Port - no thanks !

Would prefer a blend of Hawks & Geelongs game plan & culture from the last 5 years.

Simms has won a flag at Port under Chocco and he has come from being an ass. Coach under the Hawk system. Furthermore we have Lade who is a premiership teammate of Dimma, Leppa who played in 3 flags in the same era and Smith who has worked considerably prior to this year in the Hawthorn system. Whether you can stand Chocco or not the fact is he is a premiership coach and the ppl employed at the club are from successful clubs who while they were there gained the ultimate success. I think this will help to make us more professional off field tactically and the footy acumen going around in the box would be the best the club would have seen in the coaches box since our last flag possibly since Tommy Hafey was in the box. So Port are a basket case now they were not when the aforementioned were there.

Would be an excellent acquisition to say the least.
Get it done Tiges.
I was going to be negative about this when I first looked at the thread. Choco has a 'drill-sergeant' attitude which can be divisive......but you have talked me into it....so long as he knows his place he has an astute football brain.

Ch 7 said GWS will be making a statement after their match that says Mark Williams is leaving and as far as Richo knows he's heading to us in a developmental role and not as a senior assistant or mentoring role to Dimma.

Choco a Tiger?

GREATER Western Sydney senior assistant coach Mark Williams is understood to be poised to leave the Giants to take up a development role at Richmond.

Reports suggest the Port Adelaide premiership coach, who still has a year left to run on his contract with the Giants, will join the Tigers and reconnect with Damien Hardwick next year.

That would mean Williams would forgo the final year of his contract as Kevin Sheedy’s right hand man at the Giants.

Williams was seen as the obvious successor for Sheedy once the former Essendon coach retires, which was tipped to be at the end of 2012.

However, the Giants last week renewed Sheedy's contract for another year.

In a major coup for the Tigers, Williams would take up a mentoring and teaching role with the club's young players.

Williams has also put his hand up for the Carlton top job following Brett Ratten's sacking last week, although Mick Malthouse is seen as odds-on favourite to assume that position.

Hardwick played under Williams in the Power's premiership win in 2004 and also started his coaching apprenticeship under the watchful eye of Williams.
