Whilst drawing Round 1 over 2 weeks is stupid and that the traditional Richmond v Cheats game should be the first game of the year not the first game in Melbourne or the Home of Football here's my silver lining

Adelaide thump Essendon in Round 1 and not even Goddard can lift the Bummers to any meaningful heights. Nowhere to hide for the Verukas. Roll on 2013.

The Blues and Tigers will clash at the MCG on March 28 with ground staff having just 48 hours to prepare the ground for football if Victoria finishes on top of the Sheffield Shield table and hosts the final of the domestic competition.

The final is scheduled to finish two days before the Carlton-Richmond fixture.
