AGAIN did I say that....FFS, why wouldn't he have Warnock drift back and cut the leads off to Jack, or have a tall drift back to make us change our entry into the forward line...

We used Richo to drift back and play back and we did the same with Gayle...really look outside the box!!!

i hope he does play Warnock on Jack..  Jack will kick 10, but somehow i dont see ruckman being played in key defensive roles.  It will be intersting to see if Malthouse plays the 3 rucks in Warnock, Hampson and Kreuser.  i dont think he will as one of them will have to play Waite's role up forward. Wwhich none of them can. (i hope i wont have to eat my words)

They could have some talls.... :huh...Big O.....

"198cm Rowe has emerged as a forward-line target along with Levi Casboult and either Robbie Warnock or Shaun Hampson".

Big O in the backline? Refer to my username

Where did I say put him back.. :huh Hampson or Warnock could play back for them and really expose us.

 :lol :lol :lol :lol

Mate honestly, do you think Mick Malthouse will just put a player in one position and leave him there??  The days of that are gone, particularly with players of height, he will move them forward, back, sideways, whatever it takes to win....try and respond accordingly next time please and focus on the discussion instead of riducule through icons!!!!

Do you honestly think Mick Malthouse will put a player in a position that he would absolutely spud it up in, especially without any practice.

Oh and when you said "Where did I say put him back". You posted a quote about Carltons forward-line targets immediately after suggesting the big O to play. How do you think people would take it?

We used Richo to drift back and play back and we did the same with Gayle...really look outside the box!!!

Then just have our ruckman drift forward to make their ruckman accountable, or just do the same as they do as see how it pans out. No need to bring the big O. No need to look out the box when usually theres an easier and more beneficial idea right inside it.

Fairytale for Blue unlikely

    Jake Niall and Michael Gleeson
    The Age
    March 27, 2013

Troy Chaplin is the only newcomer certain to play for Richmond against the Blues, who are unlikely to select forward Sam Rowe for a fairytale return to senior football when they name the team for Thursday night.

The Blues appear set to select three talls with ruck/forward abilities - Matthew Kreuzer, Shaun Hampson and Levi Casboult - for the Victorian opener at the MCG, but Rowe, who missed most of last year after suffering from testicular cancer, is not likely to be picked, given that the Blues already have three talls who can play forward.

Richmond will pick 195-centimetre Chaplin, who will play alongside Alex Rance (194), with Ben Griffiths (200) also favoured to be selected in a tall back line designed to cover all options.

Richmond's first draft pick from 2012, Nick Vlastuin, is in the mix for selection, but another recruit, ex-Crow Chris Knights, has very little chance of playing on Thursday night.

The Richmond defence will have a different look compared with last year, since the club's most experienced player and defensive general, former skipper Chris Newman, has been playing almost exclusively on a wing during the pre-season.

Bachar Houli and Steven Morris have become regular smalls or runners among the Tigers' back six and 188-centimetre Jake Batchelor can play on either tall or smalls.

The Blues cannot consider the club-suspended Heath Scotland and their most potent key forward Jarrad Waite, who is recovering from a calf problem. The Tigers will be minus midfielder Nathan Foley and highly versatile defender Dylan Grimes.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said Richmond's depth meant good players were beginning to miss out on selection.

''That is something we have not had with regard to our depth. There

will possibly be some new faces, Troy is an obvious choice,'' he said.

Hardwick said pre-season had shown the Tigers were developing maturity by being able to play poorly and still win.

''That's what good sides do and that's what we're starting to become,'' he said.

''That is something our guys are starting to deliver, that steely resolve about getting over the line. I'm really glad Chris [Newman] put that on the agenda [that Richmond feared no other side], because it's time to step up.''

Richmond has not beaten Carlton in nine matches and has only once started the season with a win since these rivals became permanent round-one opponents in 2007.

The opening match carries enormous expectation for the Tigers.

''The best place to be is [where] expectations are high. That's where you get your best results,'' Hardwick said.

''We have put the pressure on our guys this year to march their way up the ladder - as have probably 17 other clubs.''

Hardwick said that while he expected Carlton's Chris Judd to be used more as a forward this year after spending pre-season in attack, he had no doubt the champion dual Brownlow medallist would be in the centre for the first centre bounce.

If the Blues play 3 Ruckman, where does everyone think they will play?

Actually Gents, being a drummer and having to do the Joke roll on occasion, it is most commonly spelt out as "ba-dum-tshh" but there are a few other variants.

We'll lose make no mistake, but I don't think it will be the difference between finals and oblivion

Gee Gerks thats not a real positive outlook, it's not even a realistic view IMO, it's just plain negative, no chance at all of winning eh, why don't we just forfeit, hope the players don't have this attitude... :huh

It's definitely not a real positive outlook. It is realistic. We haven't beaten them for 4 years. Didn't say there was no chance of winning so stop making things up as usual dude. I'll be going off my nut in support of the boys on Thursday, but IMO they'll do us again. I think we've bridged the gap to them in terms of ability, but they have us mentally and they have a serious edge in winning the bigger games that we are yet to prove. Also think they've had a better lead-up.

Either way I'm not getting sucked into the hype of the importance of Round 1, it's a long long season and there will be disappointing losses along the way for every team. Prepare for it. Or chuck a spack, IDGAF

Gerks, your comment.."We'll lose make no mistake", honestly, doesn't that say there is no chance of winning, thats how I read it..so not sure who is making things up mate!!

BTW, I don't get sucked into any hype, but I will be going there with the positive attitude that we will win!!

I read the comment as "We'll lost make no mistake" as that's what was written...

Near full strength despite missing two of our best players.  :lol We should be able to cover them but stuff me full strength. Same goes for Carlton Waite would be close to their most important player.  :lol
Two of our best missing = NEAR full strength. Some people just want journos to look like idiots even when they don't write something stupid
I wouldn't say that's near full strength. Missing a couple of ok players is near full strength. Missing your best KPD and one of your best clearance players isn't easy to replace. Unless they are going off the fact neither of them ever play.  :lol

I think Losing Scotland will hurt them more than Waite. In previous encounters, a lot of Blues goals came through the likes of Betts, Armfield and Robinson. If we can contain these three, we should be more competitive.

In saying that, who should we play against these three?

I'd like to see Flossy on Robinson if he gets a start, Conca on Armfield and on Betts I have NFI. Morrie would be an option but Betts might show him for pace. Jake King started his career in the back pocket, he has the pace and the grunt to put pressure on him but this would be a highly unlikely option with our current setups.

I agree tiga. They load their forwardline with talls so they can bring it to ground for their small running forwards. My guess is that Morris will line up on Betts, Petterd perhaps on Armfield and Conca/Ellis on Robinson. Robinson is my worry.
