9 vlastuin been a wrap for him for awhile now. just goes to show how valuable this pick is some real talent available to us here i hope they dont stuff it up.

It's definitely not an envious task for Francis this year. There's a lot of talent in the top 15, you wouldn't want to get it wrong.

Claw, if Vlastuin, Grundy & Stringer are all available at our pick 9 which one do you take?
sorry tas but in my heart my personal perspective  i reckon if i had to choose between grundy and stringer id take stringer. i really do see him becoming a pavlich or goddard type at their best. if in charge of the list i reckon id take grundy. as i said what a doozy of a call to have to make.
my cousin sent me a clip of stringer geez 3 or 4 yrs ago might be 5  ive followed him from a distance ever since. the last 3 yrs getting what i can on him. ive even seen him play half a dozen times travelling from perth.when it comes to this bloke i suppose im a little biased. i always thought he would be a top 5 pick way back then, funny what a broken leg does.
the flip side is i may end up with egg on my face but i dont think so.  i backed ash sampi in absolutely sublime in everything he did as akid but the work ethic and discipline killed him when he got to afl. you just dont know.

I can answer that for him......Grundy, Stringer Vlastuin in that order ;) you clearly don't read enough of Claws posts ;D

Correct, you just dont know, but if you get to know the kids character through interviews and psych analysis, you get a better idea than just watching them play football.

This is the area the club has finally woken up to (only about 20 years too late) and is something that most of the armchair experts cannot grasp. there is more to becoming a long term AFL footballer than raw talent.

And my thoughts than your thoughts."

id say stringer has shown already a great work ethic and plenty of discipline and endevour wouldnt you.
if supposedly hes selfish as a player and a bit arrogant on the field id take it every day of the week its hardly a charcter flaw. his actions speak for themself id say.
i we listened to every rumour about every kid we draft any of them.
can you point me to a bona fide article or comment from anyone in charge who have said there are charcter issues with stringer.
buddy was a party animal who wouldnt train and had his head up his arse how untrue was that. he may have had still have  a chip on his shoulder but you only need go to training to see how hard he worked/ works.
your right we are not privy to psych analysis but but by actions we can sure as hell work out desire to succeedd work ethic likability etc.
your talking about not even looking at a very talented kid because hes a bit arrogant supposedly.  as i said give me the arrogance in my players anyday. give me players who want to take the game on and can be a bit selfish at times.

its not all about stringer you know?
This comment was broad one, not aimed at any one draftee or armchair expert.

gotta love the way you can still find a way to argue with someone agreeing with what you say.

just came across this by accident;

Quote
What’s the #1 thing recruiters look for?

When a player is drafted into the AFL it is widely acknowledged that the club who selects them is taking a risk. Regardless of how well a player can perform at a lower level, there is no certainty that they will be able to replicate that form on the biggest stage.

So what do the clubs look for to help them make their decision? As Hawthorn recruiter Graham Wright says, “ The attribute that Hawthorn is most interested in is character.”

Character goes beyond what a player does away from a football environment. It reflects whether or not a player is coachable, their ability to take on new information and if they can positively interact with their teammates.

The reason that AFL clubs place such a huge emphasis on character is because this can be assessed long before a player is drafted. Clubs naturally want to make a calculated assessment on a player’s character so that they can afford to take one less risk.

I would doubt too many "draft watchers" would have an insight into this important side of things and would go a long way to explaining why some selections end up higher, or lower, than is expected.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

thats a doozy.
to me list says grundy, best talent and game winning ability stringer. best performed and consistent vlastuin. theres good reasons for each statement. for me and at the end of the day its just opinion i like stringer above the other two.im more comfortably with what vive seen of him.

Cheers. :thumbsup Starting to look like Stringer won't be available but Grundy will..

Interesting times ahead. All will be revealed in less than 24 hours.

This draft makes you change your mind every day lol. Emma Quayle has Thurlow going in the first round so that counts him out.

9. Vlastuin
31. Wright (if Hawthorn don't get him at 28)
33. White/Atkins
34. James Stewart (if we miss out on White)
