Vlastuin had 21 disposals, a team-high seven rebound-50s. team-high 10 intercepts, five score involvements, 499 metres gained and took an equal game-high nine marks.

“I was a little bit nervous before the game, just kicking and all that, but it felt really good,” Vlastuin told Richmond Media in a post-match interview.

“Thought I ran alright, thought I went alright, and had more connection with “Funky” (Ben Miller), “Taz” (Robbie Tarrant) and Hugo (Ralphsmith).

“Haven’t played a lot of footy with them, so it’s good to have them out there.”

One of the small but ongoing travesties in @AFL: that Nick Vlastuin has not made the All Australian 22. Who would want to play against him (clearly no one from the dismal @WestCoastEagles). #AFLEaglesTigers

It will go down as a crime that Floss was continually overlooked for AA across our premiership years.

Last night he was again huge for us. 20 disposals, 9 marks and 10 intercepts. I had him as our most important player on the night as we fed off his intercepts. That's why he had 5 score involvements too. Our defence is so much stronger and reliable when Floss is playing at or near his best.

The amount of money the AFL rakes in from these fines must be ridiculous. Would be interested to see how much they bank each season and what they actually do with it.

Once again the MRO goes after us despite no one getting hurt, no one from the opposition remonstrated and no free kick being paid :huh3 ::).

Should challenge this. No sling action and didn't really 'drive' his head into the ground.

Dimma on AFL360 talking about Floss:

Nick is one of the players you love to have in your side. You've got to admire those players that continually put their body in a position to win the ball back. Those possession game interceptors are very valuable and Floss is one them and one of the best in the land at our footy club. What has really been impressive this year is Floss' leadership has gone to another level. He was the type of guy who came in and played the game a certain way where his leadership was the way he plays. His off-field leadership has really improved. Hence why he is part of that greater leadership group at our club. He's become an important player to us and still loves his surfing and still lives down Geelong way in Torquay. He loves his time away from footy but he is still heavily invested and that's why was love him.

Vlastuin's impact on the Tigers in 2022:

Since he returned from injury in round 5.

                                   Average   Rank in the AFL
Intercept possessions       9.3            #2
Intercept marks               3.0            #7

On Thursday night, we scored 24 points directly from Vlastuin's intercept marks.

ALL-AUSTRALIAN SELECTOR HEAPS PRAISE ON RICHMOND STAR

By Alex Zaia
SEN
15 June 2022

All-Australian selector Gerard Healy has heaped praise on Nick Vlastuin’s 2022 season so far.

The Richmond premiership defender was named in the All-Australian squad of 40 in 2020 – his one and only nomination – but didn’t make the final 22.

Vlastuin, a three-time premiership player, has been a key cog in Richmond’s defence for several seasons alongside co-captain Dylan Grimes.

Healy is surprised Vlastuin hasn’t received more recognition from All-Australian selectors in previous years.

The 28-year-old has been restricted to just 18 games over the past two seasons - 12 last year and six so far in 2022 - due to knee and hamstring injuries.

“Since Round 5, he’s the second-best intercept marker in the competition. He’s number six for marks,” Healy told Sportsday.

“He is so good in that department.

“I’m surprised they haven’t pushed him up for All-Australian.”

So far this season, Vlastuin is averaging 22.2 disposals, 7.9 marks, 6.4 rebound-50s, 9.4 intercepts, 3.5 score involvements and 444.8 metres gained per match.

He is ranked No. 1 in the competition for intercepts per game and No. 6 for marks per game.

Vlastuin was a key factor in Richmond’s victory over Carlton at the MCG last Thursday night, with 24 disposals, five marks, seven rebound-50s, a team-high 10 intercepts and 428 metres gained.
