March 05, 2013 RICHMOND draft find Nick Vlastuin says he's no guarantee of a Round 1 debut, but coach Damien Hardwick begs to differ.
Vlastuin again looked comfortable in Richmond colours on Saturday night and, after his fourth consecutive display of quality, a clash against Carlton in Round 1 looms.
Last year's Vic Metro captain and No.9 draft pick added to solid outings in the club's last intra-club match, against the Indigenous All-Stars and in the triangular NAB Cup match.
"He is an impressive kid. He doesn't get too carried away with his performance and he's hard and tough and that's exactly how we like them at Tigerland," Hardwick said.
"He is going to be a player we think is going to be a long-termer for us."
Vlastuin credits a summer of toil alongside Richmond's midfield stars for his quick progression.
"It's NAB Cup Round 2, so the teams have played their younger players, but I will find out next week if I am in then and hopefully Round 1 as well. It's been good so far," Vlastuin said.
"I have been excited about (debuting) since I first started practising my footy.
"(Fellow midfielder) Matty Arnot said today we have played against (Trent) Cotchin and (Brett) Deledio all summer and they are some of the best midfielders in the league, so we shouldn't be out of our depth when we play against (Jobe) Watson and guys like that."
