However, among all the negative news, veteran Nick Vlastuin was credited for his efforts in a rare shining light for Richmond; with Jack Riewoldt believing the scoreline could’ve remarkably been even worse without his efforts.

“If the Tigers didn’t have Nick Vlastuin tonight, certainly this scoreboard could be looking worse than what it is now for Richmond supporters,” Riewoldt admitted.

Vlastuin flying the flag for the Tigers

Vlastuin’s individual level of performance has not diminished.

In fact, the 30-year-old is playing some of the best football of his 230-game career with the Tigers.

He is averaging 19.6 disposals, 6.0 contested possessions, 6.6 marks, 5.8 rebound-50s, 8.2 intercepts and 400.5 metres gained per match this season.

Competition-wide, he is ranked second for intercepts and sixth for rebound-50s.

Vlastuin’s performance against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium yesterday epitomised the form he’s been in throughout 2024.

He had 21 disposals, six marks, five rebound-50s, five score involvements, seven intercepts and 433 metres gained.

Time and again, he repelled the Roos’ attacking moves in trademark strong and bold style.

Cam Mooney’s top five AFL greats who never won All-Australian honours

SEN

4 – Nick Vlastuin (Richmond)

“I'm absolutely shocked this guy isn’t an All-Australian.

“He's a three-time premiership player for Richmond and he was one of the best small defenders in the game through those premiership years.

“I can't believe he didn't make an All-Australian in those years. He was a genuine star.”

Think he's a chance next 3 years as the ball will be down back a fair bit.

Think he's out next captain if not Broad. That may help him too.
Go Tigers!

Conversely I think he'll be entering the twilight and will be remembered by RFC fans as the bloke who was robbed of 3-5 AA jackets.

Great footballer but honestly dont think he's been robbed of an AA. Certainly deserved to be in the squad of 40 a few times though
