i heard the coaches are currently addressing the fade out period in games.
Does this mean an admission of an inability to coach in the last 7 minutes of the final quarter?
What garbage.. When it comes to the last minutes of close games its up to the players ..
In a granny maybe. We've lost too many close ones for it to be all the players fault
IMO i thought it was bad decision making by players.. i dont believe there is much coaching, albeit put extra players back, that can be done. Cotchin being off the ground wasnt a coaching move, it was a routine rotation and with hindsight im sure he wont proceed with the rotation next time..
GC was a stuff up, and we should never have been that close, late in the game. We missed shots all day. GC won it with exhuberance IMO.
Carlton we lost by making bad decisions at a vital time and then a fluke goal by Carlton.
Fremantle was just a very good game and could have gone either way. i thought they wanted it more. Especially the game in the rain
Nth Melb , i thought was a good game by both teams again could have gone either way
Geelong we had 1 good qtr and almost pinched it. We panicked in the last qtr and Bartel slaughtered us
And against Adelaide we played 1 good qtr. They were a better team for the other 3
So IMO although we could have won those games, there were reasons we lost not just as you say bad coaching..
Looking forward to hear what coaching differences you would have made.
I didn't say we lost those games due to bad coaching. Nice list of excuses though. A quality coach would have done something different in that North game. Not saying Dimma won't be a quality coach but he's proved nothing yet. Hasn't even had a season close to winning more games than not. Terry coached in prelims, Spud is the most successful coach we've had in 25 years and apparently they were worthless duds and Hardwick is a great coach. Dimma has done a good job with our list but I'll start talking him up once he's won at least two finals. What I want is great match day coaching. Start by changing up the forward line every once and a while because some of our games last year were a disgrace when it came to our forward half. 4th year this year, it'd be a good time to start playing finals
Bingo!! Wallace and Spud left the team far worse than they began, especially Spud. Spud had a finals team ffs, but his coaching was terrible AND he created an elitist culture that was detrimental to the development of young players. Wallace continued with the same culture, but did make the club take notice of off field issues, especially regarding recruiters and getting more spent on the football dept. Wallace was also left of field in gameday coaching and very innovative but he never had the players playing for him. Credit where credit is due to Wallace.
but fact is they left Richmond worse than when they started.
We have had virtually the youngest list in the comp and Hardwick has built from the ground up.. As a club we have improved the team each year, both on and off the field. Hardwick so far hasnt had the opportunity to really test his gameday coaching because as i see it he has been drumming in to the players a particular game style. Im not saying its all because of Hardwick, i think it has been a great team effort by all from the board to the boot studder and we WILL see the results pan out as we think they will.
We weren't far away last year, but its a tough competition and to have come from where we were in a period of compromised drafts, i think they've done really well.
