on two occasions tonight ellis was the only bloke prepared to put his head over over the ball and got penalised because his head made contact with an opponents legs who was too scared to put his head over the ball. The second time the north bloke actually pulled out of the contest.

combine that with the amount of times a bloke takes possession and is tackled straight away, only to penalised, and the mission to turn the game into one where the bloke who wants the ball the most is penalised, while the weak prick hanging back is rewarded, is almost complete.

success is within reach Andy, well done on stuffing the game completely.  :clapping

Spot on Al. It's bloody ridiculous.
It's the opposite of everything you would tell your son to do in junior footy.

gotta agree it makes the game almost unwatchable.
what poos me is all the yes men in the media. none of them have the balls to complain in fear of vlads wrath.. how anyone can think this new rule is good is beyond me.

we play a contact sport or we used to. there is always going to be injuries. you dont change rules that affects the fabric of the game.  we have all played the game and we all know we could get hurt. some injuries just has to be looked at as something that can happen sometimes.
i have to ask how many blokes have had serious knee injuries over the last 10 yrs from blokes diving on the ball.

id say stupid rule changes in previous yrs has greatly contributed to what injuries have occured. instead of reviewing what has been done they just bring in another rule that peees every one off.
so its the dying minutes of a game and you throw yourself across the legs of a player in an attempt to smother a shot at goal whats the result a stuffin free kick. the bloody idiots have to leave the fabric of the game alone and just let most problems sort themselves out over time like they did for the first 100 yrs of the games existence.

I agree the rule should only penalise a player if they slide in feet first and make contact with the opponent below the knee's which is dangerous but a player having their head over the ball while making contact with the opponent below the knee shouldn't be against the rules.

Also why was there so many free kicks being given to the kangaroos at the centre bounces in the 1st half was our ruckman infringing on the other player or something.

I didn't see the game so I'm unsure what happened. But I don't mind the rule much if it's used well. If Ellis put his head over the ball WITHOUT his feet leaving the ground, stupid call. If he dived on it, free kick. I only say this cause I know blokes who "dive for the ball" but aim for the legs to hurt people.

Some very perplexing decisions last night. Deja vu with playing North this time last year. I think Vickery and co. reacted to being frustrated with the scragging and opponent's arms over the shoulder not being paid frees.

The inconsistency award of the night went to umps with Morris being pinged for running too far on the wing yet Daw ran a mile without bouncing the ball to kick that goal.

Did a report come out of the North game? They showed replay of a scuffle and the crowd went "woah!" as though a punch had been thrown.

Some guy jumper punched Griff.

RE: Ellis getting pinged twice for going in headfirst, Wright almost knocked himself out on Knights' knee and no free to us. The biggest problem will be actually umpiring the rule, it's going to frustrate everyone.

Is it a trial rule?  :pray

Nob Cup always has woeful umpiring. Umps are really whistle happy. Same happened last year in all games, every team, and will get back to normal (as bad as is  ;D) by round 1.

The joke is that it isn't. Straight in. The Ellis one was ridiculous. Diving in and winning the footy should be allowed. Sliding in like that knob Lindsay Thomas feet first into Rohan is dangerous.

Even the commentators said he did the right thing and is exactly how you teach kids to go for it. Reckon the umps were told give the rule a good working out whenever they can.

they got alot of over the shoulder free kicks, they dropped their knees . I'm certainly not suggesting they were there ( should have been play on for most of them) but maybe we could learn a few lessons along the way on dropping ours knees when the oppposition is tired and aiming for the hips when tackling
