Great to see good consistent pre-season form being rewarded....NOT

That's the disappointing thing for mine.

Disappointed Vlaustin isn't named, thought he'd done more than enough to warrant a debut. Just his decision making alone should've been enough over some others

Have concerns about Kingy; has he had enough game time leading into round 1  :huh

Not sold on Nahas either, he gives us 10-20 minute cameos and that's about it not what we need Tomorrow night IMHO

Oh well....

Just to change the mood and to add something a little more positive. Regardless of injuries, we can chuck up a number of names that can enter this side throughout the year: Foley, Grimes, Petterd, Stephenson, White, Vlastuin, Knights, Arnot. Think I've missed a couple but looks like we're finally batting past 22.

All those players were here last season bar Stephenson (very average player), Picky.R (average player), Knights (struggles to get on the park and has struggled with form lately) and Tigger (first year player). I think our young players improvement will improve the depth more than some of our prize recruits. Post probably sounds negative but just trying to look at things both ways. Knights & Petterd could end up being decent recruits which would help. The Coach pays no attention to pre-season though  ;D

I was going to give the blokes like Vlastuin and Knights a different heading like 'optimistic unknowns' ;D but the list then seemed too slim so I just lumped them together. I guess I was tying to point out that the named team isn't bad and there still guys to come in, also blokes to cover a handful of injuries. Really agree that the improvement (if there is any) will come from the newbs. But realistically who are we likely to see this year besides Vlastuin, Elton and Arnot? I really hoping the immediate improvement comes from guys like Conca, Batchelor and Vickery to stand up so we can have 10'ish unarguably good players instead of just 4 or 5. Was going to add this in the original post but just CBF at the time but you called me out ;D

I just think now though that we have 27 or 28 actual players we can play every week (fitness pending).

The selectors have showed NO imagination.  They have played it TOO safe.
How many times do the same names have to fail in the same game before someone actually decides they are NOT the future of the club!
I don't mind having them in the 40 as back ups but the names of McGuane et al are definitely NOT best 22 now at the club.
Hope two drop out for Vlastuin and Knights. :pray :pray :pray
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Agreed. Cannot understand how both Nahas and King have been named. Disappointing.

Agree! I am a little dumbfounded, but I will be there, landed in Melbourne this evening and enjoying a couple of beers now...!!

Like King just recently said on 360, we've obviously gone for a settled side. And to kind of steal what MaClure said about Melbourne because it applies to everyone (Dunstall said something similar on Triple M this arvo), this is round 1 and it's not worth rushing back unfit and unready players including first years. Our youngest and least experienced heading in tomorrow night is Ellis, and with the hype and atmosphere surrounding the game I'm happy with that.

The team likely was selected ages ago and baring any stellar pre-season performances, these players were required just to stay fit and to 'go through the motions' leading up to round 1.

Am already visualising a couple of brain-fades resulting in 50 metre penalties courtesy of Mr Mcguane, i really hope he has had plenty of anger management counselling from the resident psycologist over the off season. Just cant afford to give the scum any easy metres tomorrow night. I suppose one saving grace is that these days he is up the other end of the ground.

LOL Vlad sold the team lists to channel 7.

And you are jumping up and down about this in 2013 ::)

Was the same last year

As part of the current broadcast agreement Ch7 paid extra for teams to be announced first

Understand the logic but what about Kingy, he's barely played so is he going to fit enough.

You could actually use the same argument regarding Chapplin, played a half against the Hawks and the full game IIRC against the Bullies - not exactly alot of match practice. But I supose the counter argument is Chaplin is a seasoned condition player  :-\

Can I say the one that annoys me and it always does depsite knowing the answer is how does Jackson get a game? Poor decision even worse skill errors. If we've got as much depth as we kept getting told then why do we persist with the usual suspects?
