I'm a bit bemused at why so many think Ellis is likely to be dropped.  He had an excellent pre-season, good NAB Cup form, played poorly in the first match and then played very well in his short stint as a sub last week.  Why would they be looking to drop our best first year player from last season after an excellent start to this year but for one poor match?    :huh

He is already starting to remind me of White a bit, he is not there at all for mine, being he sub says it all really. Would rather see Val in instead, I think he would offer us more. Pre season, NAB and last season have nothing to do with this season or the season proper.

I can't remember a time when there was this much competition for selection.

Val, Knights and co might have to wait until we lose a game before they are given a go.

In the mean time every player in the current 22 knows they are on notice to perform.

Strange and exciting times for the tiger faithful .

I'm concerned we are too short down back. The whole point of putting Griffiths down there was to have a tall to take the opposition talls. Sure he had a poor game round 1 but his kicking over zones is also something that is very useful. Dropping a guy after one game is tough! Does nothing for confidence!

I think he was mainly dropped because StKilda dont really have any talls.

In his first season Ellis averaged 15.7 disposals (White averages 12.2), 3.6 marks (White 3.5), 1.6 tackles (White 3.2), 1.4 rebounds (White 1.0), 1.3 inside 50's (White 2.4), 1.7 clangers (White 1.7), 0.7 clearances (White 1.2), 1.3 1%'ers (White 1.9).

  • Ellis has had 20 or more disposals in 4 out of his 23 games, White has had 5 in his 89.
  • Ellis received a Rising Sun nomination in his first season, White never has.
  • Ellis is taller, heavier, fitter and faster.
  • Ellis has played almost solely as a defender, White as a mid/forward for most of his career.

How you get a similarity between the 2 is beyond me.  When Ellis moves to the midfield as his development grows then his stats and value to the team will increase exponentially.  In my opinion he will have 10 times the career White has.

unfortunately Griffs main problem at the minute is finding the pill, even last week in the magoos i didnt think he found it often enough to warrant a re call.

Don't compare stats, that's not what I mean, I am talking about the way they play and their positions and the impact thy have on the game....now look at it again, is it still beyond you?

Sure is.  White has never played a defensive role, always played mid/forward in a see ball, get ball mode while Ellis has never played an attacking one, always played back in a rebounding, link up role.  White has played 89 games and hasn't improved in his past 50 while Ellis has played 23 games and has consistently and significantly improved in that short time.  Now, you look again and tell me how the hell you can compare them.

If Ellis goes out Val, Knights or White could play his role, all the same. I expected more out of Ellis, being the sub doesn't show me that he has improved "significantly" if anything he has gone backwards.

The whole team is playing better.  When that happens, even if you improve, you may not force your way into the team.

IMO training in pre-season = wgaf. I could train my heart out and be one of the better trainers but if I was out there on the field I wouldn't get a touch and didn't he have a stinker in the aboriginal match? I also thought his NAB cup was poor from what I saw which granted wasn't all of it. Agree he played the sub role great so deserves another chance.

If they have nothing to do with season proper, what's your validation for Vlas in?

No point having a bloke who can kick over zones when his only disposals are kick ins. Needs to learn to find the ball and spoil

He is playing better for Coburg than Ellis has for us, if you want to compare pre seasons Val's was much better than Ellis's....so why is Ellis in?
