Claw our list isnt that flash. I cant understand why people seem to think we have a good list. 4 years ago we had the worst list since the dying days of fitzroy. We added Houli and Grigg and Maric. Ok so they have improved us a little bit but we are not a top 4 side. We are a 8 to 10 side and thats about it IMHO. If we cop injuries we would be a 12 to 14 side.
imo ramps the real difference between 4 yrs ago and now is the base from which we need to continue to build from. most dont realise it or at the least acknowledge it  but we are still rebuilding and still need to do a lot of it.

what  houli and grigg were was value add players.  they were upgrades who replaced below standard players.i have no problem with it in fact we dont do enough of it in some ways. imo i think its easy enough to upgrade again on deficient  player types like houli and grigg.

imo big ivan was a bargain  but we need to make absolutely sure theres a decent ruckman coming behind him that is where we have regularly failed.  ivan is now what 27 turning 28  succession planning and ensuring there is a continuation has been poor.
imo we continue to put all of our eggs in one basket or too few baskets.  we also continue to hang onto players for too long we have to learn from the past. imo we continue to struggle with list management.

we have 17 18 juniors that is  18 to 21 yr olds.   plus about 9 who are development players still  22 -24. in a lot of these cases its too early to say what they will become.
unlike 4 yrs ago we have a lot of youth and a lot of potential. we need to see a good chunk of that potential turn into bona fide players not glass half fulls that we have had to endure for yrs on end.
i think our mature players and vets continue to be the problem. not enough numbers in thses brackets and most certainly not enough quality and leaders. far too many of them are battlers but we are getting closer to fixing this problem just with juniors and development players coming thru.

mature/vets 25 plus are
tuck newman stephenson  all have to be close to retirement/delisting.
jackson white, nahas mcguane, lonergan, knights king, derickx  a edwards all mature/vet battlers who have real deficiencies  or they  struggled to get regular games.
chaplin foley deledio maric are the decent mature players. some would argue about these even.

we all know we have the makings of a very very good midfield its everywhere else that needs an awful lot of attention. yet we still need to add to the mids.
there is a lot of building blocks in place and the quality of the list is improving every yr albeit slowly.
thing is there is a lot of other sides in a similar position hence we are a chance to scrape into the 8. for about 12 teams there is no guarantees.

imo hardwick has done a pretty decent job to date he has made us pretty competetive.  but i think we should not be expecting a real lot with the current list or the stage the current list is at.

Id say we softened collingwood up, by gee they had to dig deep to win 1/4 of a game and get the points...they were ripe this week :shh

According to some we were soft for 120 minutes last week BJ.

We were weak as pee apparently.

It was Collingwood's rigorous training regime that backfired today and Essendon's winning culture.

Funny they took down their 2013 slogan from Wanky Hill when the scandal broke "whatever it takes" yet after their

so far this season those flags and slogans are starting to reappear.

I guess when you have a winning culture that is how you win "whatever it takes"
Collingwood were ripe for the taking as the bummers showed today and the Dawks showed two weeks ago.
Problem is we tend to poo ourselves in big games playing soft unaccountable footy and wobbling about with huge heads after beating a bottom four team isn't the way we should've gone about it.
The whole team including the coach got a lesson against the pies, lets just hope we have learnt something because it won't be any easier in Perth.
If we go there trying to play that softie, limp wristed footy we will have our pants pulled down again.
Essenbum is a middle team like us, if they can win there them so can we. And everyone at the club should beleive it and want it.

Our jumper: Discipline, Awareness, Belief,  Desperate.

You didn't think our footy was softie and limp wristed after round 1, in fact you were still celebrating the week we played the Dogs over our win over the Blues.
These are the sort of games we have failed in aren't they? We won in a big game in round 1 in a high pressure situation didn't we? By my recall also we were locked and loaded in 2009 and failed and never been near it since then in round 1 until this year but memories are hazy on some people except of course when they feel the need to justify their age how long they have supported the tigers and how many tins they rattled during save our skins to justify their responses. But I digress.

Furthermore you state that we were weak as pee for 120 minutes hence the result on Saurday yet today Collingwood were ripe to be taken down. Ahahahahahaha that is laughable given both teams had a 5 day break. Given Essendon play in these games every year and bar a few year under Knights in 2008 and 10 were extremely competitive in them
knowing were they were they have been preparing for these games for a long time. Other than Carlton when have we been in a big game even in the last two years when we look at the fixture and say hey we are on the big stage. Dreamtime in 2011 we played in front of 83K and won that night with Essendon having a 5-3 record at the time to our 3-4-1 record. Short memories but again I digress.

To celebrate a win against a hated foe in Carlton so openly in a big game on a big stage regardless of where they sit on the ladder is great but don't go and tell me we were gutless and that we were weak as pee for an entire game because we lost to a better side on the day in a game we were nowhere for 25 of the 120 minutes merely because you think a few words in your dogma "Discipline, Awareness, Belief,  Desperate" didn't work out entirely last week.

If the fortunes of a side are going to hinge on 120 minutes in Round 4 against a side that universally even with a few out was more superior than ours given the number of premiership players in it given where we have started from, planned, come from and where we are and you can call us gutless and weak as pee over 120 minutes in your opinion given the amount of footy played and the effort shown and improvement shown then you pal are so hard to please and instead of justifying answers with a few cheap gimmicky words and individual characteristics then pal its not a question of being hard to please its a question of are you ever happy?

Essendon winning culture "whatever it takes" bottle, syringe, guinea pigs, lies, aloofness.
Whether they are mid road side or not is not the issue here but if some want to point that out that's fine.
I'd rather worry about what we are doing and where we are going but hey whatever makes us tick.
The Carlton win was very special to me as I'm sure it was to all of us.
I overlooked all the errors especially the last quarter because we won that's all that really matters in the end. And yes I am still celebrating that win.
The saints game raised some genuine concerns about our pressure and hardness at the contest.
I mentioned after the bulldogs game that although we had improved our pressure acts in that game we had limited pressure applied by the young bulldogs. I highlighted my concerns numerous times before the pies game. Paul Roos was one of many experts that highlighted the issues I have been concerned about.
You mention that Collingwood is top four,  more experienced etc.
yes your completely correct but any team is beatable on any day if your switched on as we proved last year against both the hawks and the swans.
Lastly the dogma,  Our Jumper: Discipline, Awareness, Belief,  Desperate" , that you kindly refer to as "mine" is written on the bottom left of  Dimma's screen when he does his dissection.

P.S. I'm still celebrating the round 1 win against the Cheating Scum.  :cheers
The club that keeps giving.
