Goalkicking
« on: July 13, 2013, 10:43:52 PM »
The past month's goalkicking has been pretty ordinary despite three wins from the last four.

17.19 vs Bulldogs
17.17 vs Saints
8.18 vs Roos
6.17 vs Suns
----------------
48.71

We can't afford to do this over the next 3 weeks against top 4 sides. We've got to make the most of our chances and especially set shots.

Not to be ignored, major issue throughout the whole team

All season long it has been an issue
14.22 Carlton
14.15 & 17.17 St.Kilda
17.19 Dogs
15.16 Melbourne
Adding the last two weeks where we have kicked combined 14.35.

In nearly half our games we have wasted chanced to win by greater margins.
We were never in the hunt last week.

Fondly remember the 18.6 VS West Coast but it has been terrible since. Vickery hasn't looked like it all year, Jack seems to have lost his touch, A Edwards isn't showing any of the confidence he had at NM, Cotchin having a bad year for it too, and the guy who irritates me a lot is Conca who rarely seems to be able to kick them. Even Lids and Martin aren't having much luck.

Some good finishers that I'd like to see kicking for goal more are Vlastuin and Ellis. Seriously even Jackson is kicking pretty straight (more or less).

10-goal wins that should be 15-goal wins. Drives me nuts...

Based on past seasons Riewoldt is our best kick for goal but I think there is a big gap to the next best. This is why we need to recruit a highly skilled small forward with a high conversion rate  Goals seem to be scored by luck rather than good management and against the better teams you cant rely on luck. Ultimately we have quite poorly skilled players inside our 50 and to win flags this will need to be an important area we need to improve on.

Ellis kicking for goal has been good as has Jackson. Agree Vickery has been off all year. Jack has been pretty inaccurate as well. Agree Lids, Cotch and Martin have missed a few which you would expect them to get. Must improve kicking for goal otherwise we stand no chance against the better teams. Only Ellis and Jackson mastered the goal kicking conditions against the Suns.

Our kicking is crap hands down but our new AFL/rugby game will see the end of FF's kicking over a 100 goals per season and also of clean scoring.
