id still like to shop vickery of to gws for adams and their nd rounder. and yeah i dont rate vickery but most others do.
id like to offer brisbane pick 11 for billy longer and their 3rd rounder. longer has had two yrs of development shows great promise and was a top 10 pick himself.

we lose vickery and pick 11.
we gain  adams longer pick 20 and pick 42ish.
we stay in the nd with decent picks all up 20,28, 42, 46, we address a serious ruck need and we gain a bloody good mid who can make an immediate impact.
i would also be looking to find a way thru trades to get say a pick around 15 to 19. not sure how to go about that atm it would likely be too contentious for people on here.

Or we could do nothing and back Vickery who is currently a better player than Longer to continue improving and pick a player in the draft who can impact (look at our track record in the past 4 years).
What would be less disruptive?
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

dont really get the comparison. longer is a genuine first ruck who will carry our ruck division for the next 10 yrs.
besides vickery is  not a better ruckman than longer even now. the greatest list need we have is a good young ruckman who we can categorically say will take over from maric in the long term,  and can fill the breach in the short term.
vickery is not that person i cant see him ever becoming a top ruckman he lacks the mongrel and ticker for the role.

vickery plays primarily as a kpp and i really think hes lacking in that role. imo we may take a step backwards in the short term but mcbean and if they warrant it elton/astbury should be developed in the ones as a kpf these are the players we should be comparing vickery to.

mcbean is doing something vickery is not clunking big overhead marks.
astbury is a hit up key forward whos been forced to play back for what ever reasons.its a joke.
elton is still very much a baby but he ticks one very important box for a kpf and that is he takes big contested marks.

imo vickery is not good enough to become a first ruckman.
imo hes not doing enough big man things if you like to play as a kpf. hes sort of a jack of both trades okay  at both but master of none.

even if vickery becomes a very good player   adams will too we wont lose on that deal.. thats the deal. its not vickery for longer.
longer for pick 11 is worth doing imo and addresses a need.

do we want adams. if so we need to offer gws a player that will suit their needs and a player that we think we can cover imo we can cover vickery with mcbean.
for me this debate  is about hw we get our hands on both longer and adams. both imo will give us more long term than vickery.

sometimes you have to take a step back to take many forward. most tiger fans run from this notion.

look maybe I have missed something here ,but Bean is not dominant in the marking stakes ,a lot of his goals have come not from marks but rather brilliant ground play

Until McBean has actually played at AFL level and shown that he can cope at the level, you are taking a big risk by assuming you can dump Vickery and be covered.

Completely different story from VFL. Some make the transition well, some don't. Signs are McBean will be OK but you can't know.

Vickery could do with a fair bit of improvement, but he is not a bad AFL player. At the moment we have no one to take his place. We are looking to play finals again next year. Why would you get rid of him?

Had his boot off during elimination final week so he was recovering on schedule.

Claw why would GWS consider Vickery as a trade option when they already have Cameron, Patton and possibly Buddy assuming he would be shopped around as a KPF? They need defensive talls to help out Davis. Gilliam has proven to be less than spectacular so to get Adams I think we would be better offering Griff or Batch

Or both.  That might tempt them and we lose nothing.

Haha Tyrone? They'll laugh at us  :rollin

In life it is very important that every now and again we share a laugh  ;D

They'll laugh at us for trading away a future KP gun for a dime a dozen inside mid

Vickery would be their second best KP player before he even got to Tullamarine

i actually think they need experienced  ruckmen and for/rucks. they really only now have giles and a couple of very raw youngsters in downie and philips..

they could do with an experinced real big bodied  tall defender for sure but they have   jacsch, davis, tomlinson, corr and plowman as tall defenders gilham and tim mohr gives em a bit of experience.reckon they will persevere with their young tall defenders.

in all honesty they wouldnt even look at batchelor and griffiths they have them more than covered with what they have.
adams is a quality footballer they are not going to accept mediocre players who are struggling to get a game at richmond in exchange for him.
i dont think they want draft picks they want decent experienced players who can perform a role. vickery has upside, will be 24 next yr so is not too old and he performs a role they are devoid of players in. they may well thumb their noses up at vickery but at least its a more realistic offer than most are prepared to put up to get adams.
