Didn't even come close.

and they are amongst the worst of the nut cases.

This thread, I thought, might be an on-going analysis of those who did get into the senate.

"This is absolutely ridiculous," Ms Lambie said. "You've got pensioners around me living off dog food, and who can't afford heating. It makes me wild."

I always laugh at wankers who trot this line out.  It's more expensive to buy cans of pet food than it is cans of human food so in reality all they are saying is that "I'm too stupid to eat human food".   :wallywink

Seriously though I agree with you. As you know we have 3 dogs; 3 large dogs and their fortnight food bill is bigger than our fortnightly meat & vegies bill.  :thumbsup ;D

Yes, one would think twice about owning dogs if they drank as much alcohol as us.

Just how did Ricky Muir win a $190,000 job in the Senate?

Here's how. (for those interested)

How did we get here?

14.29% is the quota for election to the Senate.

How could 0.52% win a seat for Ricky Muir of the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party?

First preference votes (Monday morning)

Coalition 39.55% = 2 seats + 10.97% to be distributed

Labor 33.16% = 2 seats + 4.58%

Greens 11.03%

Another 37 groups have a total of 16.26%

Ricky Muir is 13th with 0.52%

Lowest-placed candidates are eliminated

Ricky Muir picks up preferences from:

Bank Reform Party (.05%); Fishing party (0.46%); HEMP (Marijuana) party (0.59%); Shooters party (0.80%); Senator on Line (0.23%); Stable Population (0.12%); Bullet Train (0.14%)

Eight remain

Greens 11.18%; Liberal 10.99%; Sex Party 4.67%; ALP 4.60%; Palmer Party 4.25%; Ricky Muir 2.91%; Rise Up Australia 2.20%; Family First 2.05%

Family First goes out. Preferences from it and the far-right Citizens Electoral Council go to Ricky Muir

Greens 11.18; Liberal  10.99; Sex Party 4.67; ALP 4.6%; Ricky Muir 4.49%; Palmer Party 4.25%; Rise Up Australia 2.67%

Rise Up Australia goes out. Its preferences and those from the NoCarbon Tax Climate Sceptics and Building Australia go to Ricky Muir

Liberal 11.46%; Greens 11.18%; Ricky Muir 5.69%; Sex Party 4.98%; Palmer 4.94; ALP 4.60%

ALP goes out and its preferences elect the Greens to the fifth spot. Greens surplus is then distributed

Liberal 11.49%; Sex party 6.45%; Ricky Muir 5.7%; Palmer Party 4.94%;

Palmer Party goes out. Its preferences and those of the DLP and Katter’s Australian Party go to Ricky Muir

Liberal 11.49%; Ricky Muir 10.94%; Sex Party 6.45%

Sex party then goes out. Its preferences and those of Wikileaks, Animal Justice, Australian Independents, Drug Law Reform, Australian Voice and Stop CSG then elect Ricky to the sixth spot.

Ricky Muir 15.02%

Some will also oppose his PPL scheme which isn't a bad thing but politically it could put Abbott in a bind if he fails to get it through the Senate given he's promised it.

What isn't a bad thing?

Tony's PPL scheme or that some will oppose it?

 :cheers
Opposing the PPL scheme would be a good thing. Taxpayer-funded welfare should only go to those that desperately need it.

As for the Senate vote with its proportional voting quotas, well we all knew the rules before this election and elections past. Too late to complain about it now as democracy is about accepting the electoral rules going into an election and then the electorate's decision even if you don't like the result  :P and even if you think afterwards the rules and a number of voters are stupid ;D. That especially goes for anti-republicans who say the constitution is perfect as is and doesn't need any reform or change whatsoever  :wallywink.

At least Sophie Mirabella lost her seat. One less nutter in parliament lol.

This looks like a fun senator...

Sex Party senate hopeful's $100m marijuana pitch
Date September 14, 2013 - 3:33PM

Phillip Thomson

A Sex Party candidate who lives in Canberra is in the running to become a senator for Tasmania on a platform of making it Australia’s marijuana capital.

A distance of 1100km did not stop Robbie Swan from putting himself forward as a Senate candidate and campaigning for the island state to be turned into the nation’s ‘‘mull bowl’’

‘‘This would be worth $100 million a year just for Tasmania and it could be worth $2.4 billion - it was a serious policy,’’ Mr Swan said.

As of Friday Mr Swan was battling it out for the final Tasmanian Senate position, although experts considered him an outsider after polling less than 1.5 per cent and was most likely to be beaten at the post by the Palmer United Party’s Jacqui Lambie or Liberal Sally Chandler.

Tasmania already grows large quantities of poppies for morphine production.

The Sex Party candidate and long time territory resident said numerous states in America were loosening marijuana laws and Australia would soon be left behind.

Marijuana is de-criminalised in the A.C.T. so all the dope-heads can go there if they want. Same goes for those who want to buy fireworks. About the only 'activities' that exist after hours in Canberra :yep.
