HAWTHORN will need to give up at least its first-round pick to secure 20-year-old Brisbane Lions ruckman Billy Longer, according to Lions talent manager Rob Kerr. Longer has nominated Hawthorn as the club of his choice, but Kerr believes the Hawks would need to include pick 18 in their deal.

I'd rookie list Polkinghorne. Reckon he's not too bad a player.
Oh but that's right , we're done. We landed the big fish already lol
you do know that you cant trade for someone and put them on the rookie list but have to wait till the rookie draft ?

Brisbane are exploring a trade that could see Western Bulldog Jarrad Grant continue his career in Queensland. The Lions, who are waiting on Carlton's offer for defender Sam Docherty, may instead look at sending him to the Whitten Oval in a deal that would involve Grant.

MELBOURNE ruckman Mark Jamar appears to have played his last game for the Demons, but remains a chance to continue his AFL career elsewhere. In what is understood to have been a mutual decision between the player and new Demons coach Paul Roos, the contracted Jamar is up for trade just three years after being an All-Australian ruckman.

Absurd! McEvoy is a very good player IMO.

Must have a lot of faith in Hickey and Stanley.

So, where does this leave Longer? Brisbane wanted that first round pick for him!

Maybe the Saints go and pick him up now as they currently have 3, 17, 21.

Or Hawthorn still trade for him but wait for the Buddy compo pick to be credited?

Looks like we pulled the trigger to early on Hampson.
We could be into longer up to our eyeballs right about now :(

Yeah I wouldn't give pick 11 though. Not for an unproven kid.

I just wonder what our comp pick will be. Maybe Brisbane would have taken two second rounders? Instead of one late first rounder (approx 20).

Longer wouldn't get a game next season for us, so not sure how he would help alleviate Maric's load.  Nothing really to point to him being a quality ruck either, other than he was a top 10 pick in his year.

we still could, if we are willing to use our first round pick on a player who will most probably be 3-4 years away from having any real impact.

I dont know how much credence there was in the talk that carlton would on trade our pick for savage, but if there was anything to it it would mean hawthorn have effectively given up 17 and 28 (29/30 whatever) for McEvoy
