Sam Lloyd to debut (RFC)
« Reply #92 on: April 10, 2014, 06:42:26 PM »
Richmond has selected mature-age forward Sam Lloyd to make his AFL debut in Friday night’s blockbuster against Collingwood at the MCG.

Lloyd was the Tigers’ third selection (No. 66 overall) in last November’s National Draft.

He attracted the attention of the Tiger talent scouts during an impressive season at VFL level with Frankston in 2013, which also saw him kick four goals for a combined VFL team in a state match against the WAFL.

The 24-year-old is renowned for his ability to win one-on-one contests, both in the air and at ground level, as well as his clever goal sense.

He kicked more than 100 goals in a season while playing for country club the Deniliquin Rams as a 20-year-old in 2010.

I like what I have seen of this kid. He moves well, has good hands and looks like a decent kick. And everything points to him improving the higher the standard of footy he plays. Really looking forward to seeing him play. He had better not be the sub!!
Good luck Tiger.

He doesn't have to do much to improve on what we had.

Yeh. He only has to apply one tackle and he would have done more than what 90% of the team has in the first three weeks!
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

aint that the truth.

good luck to him a few reckon he can play i hope they are right. for sure we have to see what he can offer.
while im not happy about taking just one  kid i am happy we gave some  well performed state leaguers a go. at 24 like gordon he should be able to make a decent contribution now.  he surely cant be worse than the myriad of dud small forwards we have had over recent yrs.

Lloyd aims to do his bit
richmondfc.com.au
April 11, 2014

The brief delivered to him by the Tiger coaches for Friday night is simple . . .

“Tackle pressure, be dangerous around the goals, and just play my role.  Talk to the boys like ‘Kingy’ (Jake King) and ‘Shedda’ (Shane Edwards), who play in that (small forward) role, and just do my bit,” Lloyd said.

“It’ll be good finally doing the warm-up, then going out there and actually running out on to the ground and playing the game . . . looking forward to it.”

Thought this kid looked great.

Effort was really there. You could see he doesn't want to lose his spot.

Will play next week for sure.
