Welcome to history the way it is, was and always will be.

I'd like to build the world a home
And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees
And snow white turtle doves

I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my arms
And keep it company

I'd like to see the world for once
All standing hand in hand
And hear them echo through the hills
For peace throughout the land

Hard to see the Russians backing down anytime soon. Militarily, Ukraine can't match them while the West and UN are sitting back.

The problem for Ukraine is their eastern and southern provinces have large Russian-speaking populations with the Crimea near 77%.

Quote
The United States, Great Britain and Russia agreed in a pact "to assure Ukraine's territorial integrity" in return for Ukraine giving up a nuclear arsenal it inherited from the Soviet Union after declaring independence in 1991, said Pavlo Rizanenko, a member of the Ukrainian parliament.

"We gave up nuclear weapons because of this agreement," said Rizanenko, a member of the Udar Party headed by Vitali Klitschko, a candidate for president. "Now there's a strong sentiment in Ukraine that we made a big mistake."

His statements come as Russia raised the possibility it may send its troops beyond the Crimean peninsula on the Black Sea into the eastern half of Ukraine

There was a democratically elected pro Russian gvt in Crimea wasn't there? They were then illegally thrown out of gvt hence why Russia has flexed their muscles? Now it goes to the polls, the people speak again and the US don't recognise it? Does it have anything to do with Crimea being a key strategic area for them to put some missiles in?

No no, you have it the wrong way around, the US and its western allies are the good guys, if they reject the result it means the Russians are bad
