Gordo is quick. Not as quick as Greg, but a much better ball user.

So our VFL team is quick. Doesn't help the AFL team.  ;D

You don't need to be superquick. Geelong were never a 'fast' team when they were winning those premierships they had one or 2 like Varcoe breaking the lines and used them accordingly. Same with the hawks. They were/are however very hardworking and move the ball extremely quickly.
1 or 2 is all you need though. Someone to scare the other team. We have zero.  :banghead

We should utilise Deledio better, he's nigh on the quickest bloke in the game. also, mARTIN IS A LINE BREAKER, DOESNT HAVE INCREDIBLE PACE BUT HIS FIRST 20 METRES(2.90 sec) COUPLED WITH HIS KICKING ALLOWS HIM TO PLAY THAT AT TIMES. (sorry caps cbf re typing)Don't think its that big an issue tbh

It is an issue. We are slow all over the ground. We particulalry need pace up forward for forward pressure.
Imagine if we had Stephen Hill/ Isaac Smith getting on the end of it instead of Grigg.
It's a big issue, in my view.

We finished 5th last year, so wasn't an issue...

If we move the ball quickly like we used to, pace is not an issue imo. Under Wallace we had one of the quickest sides fat lot of good it did.

Sydney only have 1 speed freak and that's Jetta. When the hawks won their first flag they had no one really. Geelong only had Varcoe its not that big a deal if the side is confident and moving the ball quickly and be able to run hard both ways.

Hawks had Buddy, Cyril, roughead amogst others in their first flag and even more pace in their second.
Syd also have a bit of pace with Jack, Shaw, Jetta, Maglyn, Malceski

I'm aware that we came fifth last year. Doesn't mean we dont have weaknesses.

IMO we are light on for line breakers and pressure players.

Sorry Willy don't agree with almost all of that.

I think you misunderstood my point - not saying we don't have weaknesses, just disagree that its as big an issue as its being made out to be. If it was  - I don't think we would have finished 5th and 2 points away from 4th last season.

Roughhead as a fast line breaker? Buddy is many things, a line breaker he isn't. Cyril was a small fwd and not a line breaking mid in their first flag. Their 2nd flag is a different story with Hill, Smith and now Cyril genuine line breakers and release players, but Im pointing out their first to show it can be done.

Jack is a 2 way hard running inside outside machine, never looked at him as a line breaker? Malceski's pace went when he had his knee op several years ago before their flag, McGlynn is a clever half fwd, but he's hardly got elite speed. Shaw is I agree.

I agree we're light on for pressure players and that can instantly improve if everyone ran hard both ways. THAT'S the real issue for mine, not pace.

Fair enough TM. Agree to disagree mate.
Roughy isn't a line breaker per se. But he has real pace and will mow you down if you fudge around in the back half. Buddy is definitely a line breaker in my eyes.
Your right, Jack is not a relaese player but my point is that he has toe and can get to a contest faster than most of our mids.

I just think we looks slow atm. We're lacking players that defenders fret to get goal side of.
Lids doesn't use his pace enough, or maybe our gameplan doesn't liscence him too.
