Am I the only one who finds those recorded retirement speeches to have become tedious?

The occasional off the cuff one is a great insight but when every player does then it feels very fake and stage managed.

And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

Who have we got now to pick up those eight or so possessions per game?

RFC recruiting is a disgrace

The push-up King gave it everything

For a full-time tradesman and hard-nosed VFL footballer simply being drafted into the AFL was a massive achievement for Jake King.

Now seven years on and 107 games played the Richmond small forward is retiring from the game knowing full well he gave everything he had to make a dream come true.

“Working six-days a week before being drafted and already being behind the eight ball playing in the VFL you had to get your fitness and strength up to the AFL standard without having the facilities.

“I’m actually not that flash of a footballer, I’ve made a career out of playing a game I’m not really that good at,” King said frankly on The Run Home.

The decision was not made lightly by the 30 year-old who made several attempts to fix a deteriorating big toe that would not allow him to play unless career-ending surgery was performed.

“As a footballer there comes a time where you know your time is up and mine is.

“I’ve gotten the best out of myself and we tried to come back this year even up to the last week but I spoke to the doctors and they said there is no more they can do for it.”

King will be remembered for his toughness on the field but even he could not continue to cope with the amount of strain on his banged-up body.

“It got to the point where you get out of bed in the morning and the first two steps that you take you’re in a bit of pain so I thought enough was enough.”

Gave a hell of alot more than Shane Edwards. When Kingy tackled the player hit the ground & got one to go on with.

When Shedwards tackles a player, The player keeps running with Shedwards on his back like a jockey. Kingy was more than your average footballer.

Just watch this guy's 100-game highlight video. Gave everything. More than you can say for a lot of other guys on the list.

Pity his injuries really cut back his leg speed the last few years. Was a very workmanlike footballer.

Thanks Kingy!

different type and different need.  a edwards a short term fix we all knew that.  unlike king who has played 8 mostly very ordinary yrs and should never have been retained for as long as he has. we keep duds for so long we never improve and have little scope for improvement. king has been a part of this problem.
i refuse to sugar coat his carreer  just because hes retired.

What are you trying to say that Shane Edwards has done more in his 8 years ?. Kingy done more in 1 year than Shedwards 8 years.

l dont know why you compare A Edwards they are 2 very different footballer's & Aaron is a crap footballer cause he won't give 100%
